Calling all SpecBoxers...

Given the previous post about the rift in PCA/NASA specbox and lack of activity on the boards, I'm trying to get a sense of where all the specbox racers are and if RL is a common enough place to discuss the issues of the class irrespective of orgs. So if your a specbox racer/builder/wanabe, how about posting in this thread...

I'm just finishing one as a step up from 944spec, despite the fact that we have two of the best shops for building these things they haven't really taken off in AZ just yet, but I think it is a logical step...sooooo....

Bueler?...:corn:

Sounds like a great idea... hopefully there will be plenty chiming in!

I'm a SPB racer in Boston MA (I guess I qualify as a builder too since I built my own car, except for the cage)

Maybe we could get a RL specific forum for SPBs...that would be great IMO.

I thought about going to SPB several times as a way to drive a, semi-afordable, modern platform car. The problem is, if I race with PCA there are only a few close events and the best (for me) is at the worst weather time of the year. So far there are very few cars here in the SE.

If NASA SE picked up the series and it caught on, that would provide a lot of events per year making it worth the $ to buy a car.

Does anyone know how these cars do in GTS?

FWIW, I think SPB (like SP996) is an excellent spec racing platform. They are relatively easy & forgiving to drive for most racers, up to about 80% or 85%. But above that, they take some real skills to drive track-record fast. The SPB racers on here at the pointy end of the spear know exactly what I am talking about. And they really reward good set-up. As mglobe pointed out in the other thread, they have really taken off here in Texas, and it is some great racing. In addition, they are catching on up East, as we saw at last May's Clash at the Glen, with a bunch of East Coast & Texas racers mixing it up.

What's Texas?

A state of mind, hoss! :roflmao:

Great idea here as the discussions have seemed to be behind closed doors for the most part or they have been regional. The series has a lot of potential. PCA has embraced it and we need to convince Nasas to work with us. As someone else has said, Nasa affords a lot more racing opportunity in some areas. For Nasa that means revenue. MA and SE car counts could go way up if there is cooperation.

Out in my neck of the woods specbox is all NASA. It is a nationally NASA class, and a properly built car can run in GTS or PT with simple mods (besides the LSD) and tires. The more open the conversation can be the more flexibility racers have with these cars.

I'm not trying to take away from other efforts but if we get some response here it could be worth a forum...

A Spec Box won the GTS2 Nationals at Miller in 2010. It ran Spec Box legal with the exception that he ran R6's. It was driven by a Romanian gypsy....

Nick Richards, the head of Boxster Spec until he shut the site down last week, ahs started a thread on POC's forum. I believe anyone can read it, you would need to register to comment. There's some backgrond info there...

I just finished my first racing season in a NorCal Spec Boxster. Tons of fun to drive and some really great guys to race. We joined out SoCal friends at a couple of great POC events and plan to do more joint events next year. The fragmentation of the online discussion has made the rules debate difficult, so a centralized site could be helpful. In reviewing the 2012 PCA Spec Box rules and the 2012 BoxsterSpec rules, I did not notice any significant differences.
