Default true value of a spec racer?

I really hope I didn't miss a thread using the search function.....and google takes me to every Miata forum lol
Long story short 99 box was totaled due to cosmetic issue. less than 98k miles IMS RMS replaced .... blah blah
spec racing is 110% out of my wheelhouse, so I am going on a limb here. What is the average cost of a car for spec box? waht do people pay for to start, and GENERAL cost of parts etc etc
I asked on another forum and everyone told me it was too expensive to start from "totaled boxster." Racing has always interested me, but as we all know you can spend $1,000 or $20,000. everyone has their own approach and wallet.
just trying to see if this is within reach or not.

There's a been a few cars recently with asking prices in the $20's, whereas mid-$30's had been commonplace for a while. You're looking at $30-45k to build, depending how much of the work you do yourself and how many extras you add in to the car (plus whatever damage you need to fix on your existing car). And the most inconvenient part of all is that the buy-in price of the car winds up being the cheap part...

You’ll spend at least $20k to get in to SPB. My build (I lost a motor during the build) is going to end up costing me a bit more than double that. Forum members here have created parts lists with pricing and you’ll see how it all adds up. The rules are on the PCA Club Racing website and your build should have most of the legal parts on it.

I think it’s good to consider salvage cars, particularly if the issue is from cosmetic or interior damage, but I wouldn’t look at a frame damaged car. I’d expect it to be more trouble than it’s worth.

The “true value” of a Spec Boxster is the wheel to wheel racing in the largest and most competitive class in PCA Club Racing.

First true season this year -- adopted on race 1 by the Texas SPB family -- I think they just wanted to ensure cheap championship points -- but I'm as glad for the camaraderie as the racing (actually more so!)
