Default New wheel for 2019?

Just saw this an another site, but don't see it on the PCA site????? Can anyone confirm?

“Spec Boxster Rule Change

Based on comments and requests from the racers, PCA Club Racing has decided to make a 2019 rule change for the Spec Boxster class effective immediately; this will allow racers to place orders now and have the product ready for next season. Due to the age of the Boxster platform, and the diminishing supply of OEM Porsche wheels that meet the class specific rules, the class will also allow a specially made aftermarket wheel to be used in competition. The wheel will be a flow formed wheel made by Jongbloed Racing Wheels specifically for the Spec Boxster class, it will meet the current rulebook requirements for size, weight and offset to match the OEM 17 x 8.5-inch rear wheel and will therefore not offer any competitive advantage over the OEM wheel. The allowance of this wheel gives racers a choice in wheels while keeping the competition fair for those continuing to run an OEM wheel setup. The Jongbloed wheel will be stamped with “SPB” to enable scrutineers to visually identify the SPB legal wheel from other models that do not meet the specific requirements of the class. The wheel will retail for $349, however Jongbloed Racing Wheels will offer an introductory price of $299 for early orders. The part number for the wheel is JRWPCA17x8.5/48SPB and can be ordered from Jongbloed Racing at 408-776-1380. Contact SPB class advocate John Gladwell for questions.”

Thats dumb. You can still get the 993.362.126.55 for that price new, direct from Porsche. They don't have many left, but at the Jongbloed price, this rule change does nothing to assist the class.

FYI: Earlier this year I found a full set of wheels of OEM (4x 17x8.5) by searching dismantlers via car-part.com for <$125/wheel delivered.
I had to make a set from two different sources -- but there were plenty to be found it seemed to me.

YMMV.

If this wheel is lighter we need to protest pca. That price is stupid - spec e30 and Miata guys buy tire rack wheels for 100 bucks each

I know have 4 full sets and my average cost per 8.5" wheel is less than $100. Of course they are old and likely not as safe as new wheels.

Do we have any examples of the OEM wheels failing due to age? All of my experience is that we can bend them really nicely, but they dont fail and cause incidents.

They will have to try hard to make it weigh as much as OEM. So long as that turns out to be true I am sticking with OEM

Hello Everyone.

They will be a Flow Formed wheel and yes we can make them weigh 20lbs. Yes I know its not a spec boxster but wanted to show what the wheel will look like.
Thanks

Audipwr1. The miata and e30 wheels are a cast 15x7 wheel. This is a flow flow formed 17x8.5 wheel. The same BBS wheel would cost $600ea.

I know you have a fantastic product / I also appreciate the cost of making a fantastic product. I'm not at all debating the price you set for your product / I'm debating it's application

These aren't cup cars, my car has spray painted bumpers and still sets records and podiums races - it's a "poor" mans racing class.

Many of us were hoping for a sub 1k set of wheels that could be bought new. The POC uses some tire rack wheel that accomplishes this

So long as the new wheel doesn't negate the ability to competitively use the oem wheels it's all good and folks who run a higher end program will benefit from the aesthetics and ease of procurement of your product - just wasn't what many of us had hoped for
