transmission detent bolt
I just had an experience with our 2 Spec Boxsters this weekend which might explain why so many SPB boxes fail. We noticed the stick felt difficult to move and did some checking. It turned out that the detent bolt on the side of the box had backed most of the way out on both cars. We retightened them and both cars now shift better. If it had fallen out completely, the gear selector rod fails to align correctly and causes gear damage or popout.
Detents are commonly found in the selector mechanism of a gearbox, holding the selector rods in the correct position to engage the desired gear.
A detent mechanism associated with a selector mechanism for change-speed gears in a manual transmission which includes a shift-and-select shaft axially slidably and rotatably assembled within a transmission housing and being linked with a manual shift lever to be axially moved in selecting operation of the shift lever .
Any thoughts?

This is a known issue. There are upgraded bolts available (which I used in multiple SPB transmissions). Can't recall the supplier. Someone here will know.

In my case they didn't back out, they just snapped.
Not sure if that eventually lead to me loosing third gear.
Does remind me I have to pull them out of the old tranny and use them in the "new" one.

There are 2 of these, one on each side of the trans. Replace the stock aluminum bolts with steel bolts.
