SPBs at COTA
In the first 12 hours of registration for the March PCA races at COTA, 17 of the 63 entries (27%) are Spec Boxsters. Looks like a hell of a race weekend shaping up with Chris Drake, John Gladwill, Sean Gibbons, and Matt Travis all entered. COTA would not be a track you'd expect to attract Boxsters, but it's in the backyard of the "Texas Boys," so stock up on brake pads.
By comparison, at the Sebring 48 Hours in February, just 12 of the 227 entries are in SPB (5%). |

We will have 2 SPB's at Sebring and COTA - not sure if they've entered yet.
If someone has a SPB I can borrow, we'll have one more car at each event. :D |

Couple of us from the Bay are going to COTA. Hope it stays dry for us this year.

I saw that Sebring participation from SPB was low. Wonder what drove that. I know my reasons for the second year running.

And there will be at least one back marker -- as it will be my rookie SPB race.

If you have a two car trailer you likely need a class A (not CDL) which is for vehicles over 26,000lbs. It's a quick easy test at the DMV.
We had no problems for anyone from the SCCA race last weekend at Sebring. Lots of toterhomes, 2 cars trailers, etc. |
WOW!!! 110 drivers now registered for COTA and 32 of them are in SPB. 30% of the field.
|
And yet we still won't get a split start.
|
We may have our own race.

Turn 1 starts out pretty wide -- but I don't think its 32-wide :-) #funnel Mike |

35 (0f 120) when I counted last.
I think 120 is a full registration -- so looks like we'll fall one short of the Glen. Mike |
I signed up but still shown as Pending. -- not spb |
Count is now 36 of 121 (30% of the overall field). Equals last year's Watkins Glen field.

The run groups are out and SPBs are with all the letter cars, SPC, SP911, SP1,2,3 and GT5. There are cars that will be 30 seconds faster in the straights and 30 seconds slower in the corner so will be a battle in all sessions + races. It will make it interesting and everyone will be dealing with the same situation. So getting a clean lap in qualy and getting in front of and staying in front of faster letter cars is going to be the name of the game. I hope it pours down raining all weekend as that would change things dramatically.
At the end of the day - looks like they figured out a way to do two racing run groups instead of three like in year's past. Maybe the DE's bring in more money and they need it to keep the event afloat. |

I'll be heading up to COTA to watch on Saturday and see some folks I haven't seen in a while.
If anyone needs a hand please let me know. I hope to be back in a car soon. |
I could use someone on the radio.
|
Sounds like fun to me. I hope to be there around 10:00 or so on Saturday morning. I'm bringing the girlfriend so you know how that goes. lol
