Default Does anyone use SPB as an Endurance racer?

We are thinking of building a multi purpose SPB. Will start with 97-99 car, stick a cage in it do the usual brake and safety upgrades, but not sure about cooling. So the question is - can the car last 9, 14, 18 and even 25 hrs without extra coolers. Does anyone here have experience running one that long, and if so what are the reliability issues? Studs, Hubs, Brakes, Trans, Rear....

I read your Dry Sump development thread, and would like to have it, but rules prohibit it. Will PM you soon.

Just a few of the threads that came up when I tried the "Search this Forum" feature at the top of the page. You should try it sometime--it really works!

A lot of folks carry a spare trans, haven't heard about any of the other parts though. Some will do a time change on parts such as new wheel bearings every year or something like that.

No problem - I've always wanted to run 25 hr with one

Needs to be a 99 with the bigger tank

You don't need a bigger tank for the 25. You can only add 10gal on a stop.

I put together a budget to run the 25 hrs this year. Have one car full but we need 2 more to make the trip from Atlanta. It's a costly event if done right.

We just run in the ES class to avoid the stupid pit stop rules in the other classes.

99 Boxsters having a bigger gas tank is a myth. I have a 99 and a 97 and they are exactly the same capacity.

That's giving up a lot to run ES. Some heavy hitters in that class. What's SPB slot into, E2?

Cervelli's builds aren't SPBs, so not as bad for ES

I'd take a subsidized seat - not too many people been around Thill in a BSR faster than me

What do you give up? There is no prize for any class position. Winning ES (which almost always means winning overall) is not realistic for a Boxster, but a top ten finish is totally possible.

You need a 997 RSR or Audi R8 LMS to win overall. You can also do it with a prototype car if you get lucky with reliability.

I have a tough time following the silly fueling rules at Thunderhill after running a full season under real endurance racing rules with WRL.

PM me and I will put you in touch with my driver roster guy. We have a very strong team this year but I am pretty sure we need one more driver.

SPB fits into E1.

NASA Endurance Racing rules

Along with Camaro/Mustang Challenge cars, Spec E46, Factory Five Cobras, MX-5 Cup, Spec Z, SCCA Spec Racer Ford, and a bunch of others.

Cars' best lap times from last year for E1 ranged from 1:58 to 2:06. This is using the bypass (i.e. not over the top at turn 5).

SPB is high 02 to low 2:03 in that config at pro pace
