Default EVO on 991.2 GT3 vs 991 GT3 RS

"There's a drama and intensity right at the top end that makes the old 4 litre in the GT3 RS and the 911 R feel like a soft and fluffy turbo unit" OUCH

Link??

Reality check. The new 991.2 GT3RS will be even "better" than all of them. Anything new here??

Which undermines any credibility it may have...
It appears the new GT3 engine is best-of-breed and is better than the previous versions, no argument.
It can't change the characteristics of what came before though, and make them soft and fluffy.

What came first? it's always the egg, because the chicken can't backwards engineer...and neither can the .2GT3.

These "gotcha" threads to RS owners are pretty old now and silly. Me personally call it progress, and you want the next motor to be better than previous generations. The majority of RS owners had the same gen GT3, and upgraded for whatever reason.

The same will happen with current RS owners upgrading to the next gen RS. No different than most buyers chatting about this are going from a GT3 to the .2. This topic is like guy dumped by his girlfriend, and keeps posting pictures on the new younger edition saying look at my new girl. I like GT cars so I want them better, and I gave up my allocation MSRP .2 because I'm good with my RS and will wait for the .2. This guess what the 992 GT3 if it happens will be better than "all" so really what's the point other than an expensive boys habit. We're blessed to have these cars, but this is silliness who's car is faster. Like what you have and not worry about what the next guy likes. Going to drive my old UV RS

^^^ Yes. Getting a bit old at this point. Seems almost juvenile like and takes you back to high school drama.

"Fluffy Turbo unit". Never heard any GT car described that way. They were better than sliced bread a year ago, but fluffy cars now??

The typical journalist hyping.

I owned a 997.2 GT3. Brilliant car. Put over 30k miles on it, many on track.

The 991RS in no way diminishes what an amazing engine the Mezger was and is. It's one of the best engines ever built. I feel the same about the 9A1 RS.

Put a sports car enthusiast in an RS or .1 GT3 for the first time and you won't hear them comment that it's soft and fluffy. Rather they will say OMFG! I've seen it many times, then I make them drive it. It's epic full stop. We are spoiled and our perspectives often skewed.

I'm off to go drive my inferior, soon to be worthless, soft and fluffy RS. In the mean time, I hope that GT cars continue to get better and better. I don't root for mine to be the best and only of anything.

I thought it was Jehtro by himself, not under EVO's banner? I had hoped EVO might maintain some integrity...

If the 991.2 wasn't better, it would be a sad day as it signals a lack of progress. I wish PAG made more progress between models.

I am not sure why all the consternation. So what the engine of the .2 GT3 is better than Porsche predecessors engines. It better be otherwise their engineers have failed. That in no way denigrates prior models. We should expect comments like this. Much to do about nothing.

I would hope this does not prevent other posters from providing links to reviews of the 2Gt3 even though the reviews may make similar comments.

If the engine was not better, I'd be VERY worried. It would spell the change in focus and investment towards turbos/hybrids. When there is an iteration where the motor is not better...all hope is lost.

(I still feel the MA1 was a step backward from the Mezger in my heart...but now everything is right with it finally having some semblance to a motorsport product)

I think it's no surprise to anyone that the new engine is better. The issue is that the journalists have come up with some frankly ludicrous and overblown terms to suggest that the .2 gt3 engine which after all is very heavily derived from the older 9A1 is night and day different. Unless PAG has been telling total porkies with it's published dyno graphs, a slightly higher rpm limit and a very slightly different torque curve isn't plausibly going to make the 991RS seem like a 'soft and fluffy turbo unit' compared to the .2gt3. I'm sure the new engine is a bit better but it's not as if Porsche have plonked the 918's engine into the new car which is the one thing that could just about plausibly make some of the terms being used plausible....

Did anyone else feel that a 997.2 mezger felt like it had more low-mid range torque? maybe in my head...
