RS separation anxiety
So, I'll keep this brief. I own a 2016 GT3RS in white. And I LOVE the car. Nothing looks, feels or drives like it.
But, I have an opportunity to get an allocation on a new 991.2 GT3 in exchange for trading my RS, and hopefully getting an allocation on a 991.2 GT3RS. And prior to owning my current 991.1 RS I owned a 991.1 GT3. And after owning both, a RS is a RS - nothing compares in my mind.
Looking further down the road, what does giving up the RS actually gain me instead of many months (or a year) without owning the car that I really LOVE. I mean, the 991.2 RS will be better but not by a mile. And, if this is the last of the N/A GT3 cars then why on earth would I give up a masterpiece that I already own and that's safely in my garage.
You guys have never been shy about sharing your opinions. So, let's here it.
Thanks

I can't imagine stepping "down" to a GT3 from an RS
But if you can only have one car, for me it would be manual.

My opinion is slightly different. If trading your RS (not discussing $) for a .2 GT3 "allows" you to guarantee an allocation for the .2RS, then it may be worth it.
The .2RS engine will most likely be based on the .2GT3 which is undisputedly BETTER than the .1RS. Therefore if you have subscribed to the concept that the RS is the ultimate GT car for you, then the .2RS would be the ultimate goal and THIS would trump all interim decisions.

As others have said, I'd pass esp. given your preference for PDK. My dealer had promised me a .2 GT3 allocation but then one of their buyers backed out of an RS and I snapped it up. I wondered about the move, but I'm thrilled I did it. I wouldn't trade down.

Thank you all for your input. As I suspected, you gave great advice. And I feel the same way - I can't bring myself to give up the RS for the GT3.
But, as one of you mentioned, I am going to discuss this all with my dealer to MAKE SURE keeping my RS until the .2RS will guarantee me an allocation.

I had a gentleman reach out to me via PM asking for my feedback in comparing the GT3 and RS since I've owned both. Here was my response:
"Both cars are a masterpiece as you know. But the RS is spectacular and in a class all by itself. The front end grip is mind warping. I've had the pleasure of driving both at the Porsche HQ in Atlanta multiple times (they know me by first name and several of my track buddies instruct there). I've been a track guy for the past (6) years and race with NASA so I drive 10/10ths. And the RS at speed is mind altering. The trail brake/turn in is delicious. It's just stunning.
There really is good reason it's wider front/rear over the GT3. And it makes a BIG difference."
