Default Headlight washers stuck up after use - How to fix?

Hey guys my headlight washers on my 2003 996 are sticking up about 2/3 of the way after spraying. Meaning that the operate normally but then after they are done spraying they don't close back down. I have to push them back in by hand.

Anyone have this issue and if so what is the fix that I need to do? I did a search but I see no old posts about this issue on the 996 forum.

Thanks!

Besides outright replacement, there is alot to be said for a lack of lubrication.....

That's what I figured...a little silicone grease, but where? How do you disassemble them?

If you remove the headlight and use a bicycle air pump to pump air into the washer inlet, the sprayer will rise and you should be able to study it closely and figure out which parts need lube.

Will do, but with compressed air (regulated low of course). Thanks!

Compressed air will work too. I like (and recommend) hand pump though because it gives me a lot more control and it's much safer.

So to follow-up on this, today I removed both headlights and disassembled the headlight washer system, removing it completely from the headlight housings. I remove the nozzles/covers and bench tested both using compressed air. I found that I needed 30psi to fully extend the washer pop ups, started at 10, then 15, etc to figure out the minimum needed. I attempted to actually disassemble the headlight washers but was unable, they appear to be glued and/or ultrasonically welded closed. So... Using silicone spray and silicone grease I lubricated the pop up mechanism as much as I could access. I got the passenger's side working smooth as butter and reinstalled it in the headlight housing with a brand new nozzle and chrome cover. The driver's side would not loosen up...it got better but not enough to eliminate the sticking when closing up. I think the plastic pieces have swollen enough over the years to create too much drag. So I ordered a new one for the driver's side from Pelican. At least I saved the cost of one on the passenger's side (for now).
