What do you use?

I recently dried the wife's Macan at the local car wash with their air compressor and holy smokes I decided I needed one!

Before that, I used a leaf blower for many years.

I use a waffle textured towel that works like a blotter. Just lay it on surface and pat dry. No rubbing required. Absorbs water well and greatly reduces chance of swirls and scratches. I bought 4 towels years ago for around $20 IIRC. A must have for dark painted surfaces. I got mine from Esoteric or AutoGeek online.

I finally went to this http://www.autogeek.net/dp-turbo-car-dryer.html to replace my electric leaf blower since it has a filter for incoming air. Used it about a half-dozen time now and really find it very easy to use.

I've been detailing for the better part of 25 years and have tried everything. Honestly, for around $50 a Craftsman leaf blower is by far the best option for drying cars, motorcycles, trucks etc. It will take a few times to develop your own technique but the basic premise is start from the top and work your way down holding the blower upside down-one hand on the handle the other nearby on the tube-this gives the most control. And no offense to anyone but you do not need a machine with a filter, the odds of sucking something up big enough to damage your paint at shoulder or waist level is a zillion to one at best. Driving your car around at highway speeds is more damaging to your paint.

The craftsman(model below) is a great option as it has a shorter blower tube than most making it easier to work with and its fairly light. I have it down to a science, completely drying my car in about 5 minutes-dry to the point there is no dripping from the mirrors after. If you have a compressor, compressed air is great for detailing(gentle blast) your interior.

Not bad, good blowing power but personally, I found the materblaster counter intuitive having to drag it around behind me(although it did roll well). Just didn't give the freedom I was looking for while drying. It was a bit pricey also.

Mine stays stationary. The hose is plenty long to reach 360 around the car. I think the hose is 30 feet long.

I don't think all MasterBlasters are created equally. Phil's kit contains an optional/upgraded 30 ft hose. So, that's how my unit can stay stationary. Plenty of hose to 360 the car.

Not bad at all. I went with a Makita just because that's what all our other cordless powertools are... they are "okay" but there are better. My sister in law used to work there so we had to support family - even though I had better tools:/

I like a blower because no cables and less hassle. Either you drag a compressor behind you or deal with getting out and storing a long hose. Also - if you don't have one, it's great for patios and outside as well.
