Nannies or not? HPDE instructors weigh in
Winding Road sent out this article today:

Three different takes on a question you deal with nearly every weekend. I'm driving a modern car on the track and Ive had nearly as many pieces of advice as I've had coaches.
What say you, instructors? Once you get some quality bathroom reading time to review the article... Tell us why none of these (or which of these) is your mantra to students. I found the last one interesting.

I let the driver choose and educate them on the difference. I don't want to feel responsible if I told them to take it off and they subsequently went off track. New management systems are quite good vs older ones so they don't intervene as much. That or they are so intertwined that you can't turn them off. Ultimately I may suggest it as an option if I feel the driver is up to the task everywhere else.

I'll add that whenever I drive someone's car, I always drive it exactly as they do. Anything they leave on I leave on, etc.

Our chapter advises us to leave them on. I also leave it up to the driver.
It used to be that we strongly urged that they turn them off but that philosophy has changed and quite frankly today's systems are incredible.
Years ago I encouraged a White level driver to turn off his nannies in a 996. He had never driven the car without them. He did a 540 on the second lap without the aids to save him. Eye opening for sure and not something I've done since. He was a little freaked.

Well, as the driver I would want the nannies off....I would want to know that what happened, one way or the other, was me. The better the nannies the more I would want them off.
I won't get in a car with another driver so I have no preference there.

I agree with everything said.
I'd add one thing which is what is the drivers ultimate objective. If it is to eventually drive without nannies then you want to get those off sooner than later. I was still driving with TC and was at the point where I was close to being solo'd. I also wanted to drive without TC . So I made sure to stay in instructed group while learning to drive with TC off. I spun a few times in my next few outings.
