Owning my DD 996tt almost a year now and I have not yet seen one 996tt on the roads in San Diego! I've seen 996, Boxsters, 991 S/TT, 997 S/TT, Cayman/S, Panamera S/TT, and all Cayenne models. I've seen a few basic 993 but rare. The 993s or Turbo hardly on the roads.

I thought lot of our 996TT was produced a lot for the US market back then! What give?

The weather there is too nice, maybe people are waiting for a rainy day. I'm on the east coast and I see a fair amount of 996tt as well as 997tt and all the other Porsche. Actually I like it best when I don't see others w my car

The production numbers are rather low. The 996 Turbo is not that common a car.

I don't see them that often here in my area of CA and this is even though my work commute -- an alternate route that I use when the freeway is jammed -- has me driving by a local Porsche dealer. I often see Porsches on the way to or from the dealer -- even spot a tech road testing a vehicle once in a while -- but 996 Turbos (and even 997/991 Turbos) are rare. Cayennes and Panameras are more common with 911's, Boxsters, and Caymans makng up the rest.

Away from the dealer on the main east/west highway -- I-580 -- in/out of the SF Bay Area I bet I don't see any 911 Turbo (993, 996, 997, 991) once a month.

I'm kind of with cutter888: Kind of like not seeing my car everywhere I look.

Agree with the two above, don't like seeing my car everywhere. Be happy, it's a rather pleasant "problem" to have.

Have yet to see a 996tt since I picked mine up in beginning of last month and I live in LA were you expect to see a lot. Still its nice to be uncommon.

I've run into a couple others out there (silver coupe, black cabrio). Both have been enthusiasts who are happy to talk cars.

What color is yours? Wave if you see a Seal Gray on HRE's.

In and around West Los Angeles/Santa Monica/Malibu I'll see 1 or 2 about every other trip of 20 miles+ This is definitely Porsche HQ.

I live on the westside in LA and work mostly in Hollywood Hills and Beverly Hills and see them all the time, pretty much every day, often multiples in a single day. That being said, now, I see more 991TTS's than 996TT's. But I spend a lot of time on the road and see probably 5 458's a day and probably atleast 5 991TT's a day. Bentleys, Rolls and Lambos are as common as a Corvette around here lol

Ive wondered the same thing. Supposedly there is an insanely massive amount of them. Yet, in the 3 years I've had mine I have seen one maybe 4 times while driving around Miami. Seems like most of them are in Cali. I'm guessing that you guys that see them pretty often must see the same ones every once in a while too right?

Over this past week I did see about 5- 6 of them but only because of Das Renn Treffen (and it's associated activities) which is becoming a huge Porsche show down here!

Only 6604 coupes and 2556 cabs shipped to the U.S. according to some 6SO posts. Then again, pistonheads says something like triple that were made...
My guess is that the ones not destroyed in accidents are mostly chilling in garages, waiting for their turn to appreciate in value like the 993...?

Personally, I don't plan to drive mine more than 2k miles a year. That's the plan, anyway. Every time I step out in the garage, I'm conflicted. My DD is a BMW M5. It's fast and capable, a well-rounded car that doesn't need to worry about steep driveways.

But I took an onramp today with 3-lanes-to-1 merge in 1/4 mile, and was lined up at the light at the bottom with a new Audi S5. Could I have taken the Audi in my older M5? Maybe. With the 996TT, I gassed it in 2nd enough to blow his doors off, then casually rode the rest of the onramp at legal speeds...

I might need to adjust my plan.

So around 10k exported to NA. That is about half the total production I believe.

I drive in and out of the SF bay area and through Sacramento and hardly ever see another 996TT. Possibly because I am in traffic at 15-20 mph and you don't see as many cars at that speed. Not even the one that is in my neighborhood and a member here (sanyata, get that thing out of the garage) . I have never seen another "Rare" example like mine, Silver with black interior and a sunroof, Snicker. I do see lots of Porsches, quite a few in the parking lot at my office and even a 996TT there occasionally. There is sort of an unofficial Porsche club developing at my company with the stock doing soo well these days.
