Cheap smoke machine for vac leaks
Found this on the Garage Journal-
whole thread here- looks like it's worth considering, plenty cheap
probably needs a little fine tuning.

I've read on some boards that the party smoke machines use a water based liquid to generate smoke. Supposedly this is bad and only oil based smoke should be used. No idea if that's correct or not.
I was thinking of cobbling something together with smoke bombs meant for tossing into groundhog burrows...

i would like to see the article. I can only find details on how the oil product provides a better and longer smoke screen. To me, a what base would be safer for everyone including our cars. I guess the water could cause moisture inside the car, but once the car is started it would be gone. I am normally wrong on most things but anyways would like to see the article.

I bought this today. Tired of guessing if I'm fighting a vacuum or air leak.

Nice!
Too top shelf for me though. I went with one of these:
https://evapleakmachines.com/product...ection-economy
$69 on ebay. It has worked great for me, not only on P cars but on Hobie cat hulls, outrigger canoes, etc.
Personally I think this is a good way to go, as lots of times the leaks are in hoses, not seals, which are very expensive. Also, I have had leaks in hidden places, like this inside radius of a hose with a molded in bend where you would never see it. Plus even if you are replacing seals, you can only replace those you know about, and usually there are a few more. Only hassle is a tendency to leak baby oil on your stuff when you are not using it.

I made one of the "evapleakmachines" Cost about $20. Used an old BBQ regulator for 1.5 psi, an old paint can and some Nichrome wire. If you want to see a nice idea see this link.

Had a chance to use it today. Found a small leak where the vacuum line transitions to a larger ID as it runs to the fuel evaporator valve near the washer fluid neck.

I placed the nozzle in the hose that runs to the DS intake manifold cover and plugged the hole.
