After lots of waffling back and forth, I have decided to commit to a 2023 718 Spyder, manual to celebrate a major career milestone. We are trading in my beloved 991.2 Carrera GTS (manual, enthusiast spec), which I loved for the last four years. But it is time. The Spyder hasn't arrived yet but I just signed all the papers today. Thrilled to join this group!
Gotta know the first mods to do - the car already has full PPF, and I will port over my Numeric shifter and wooden shift **** to the 718. I will probably also do lighter color wheels and a Kline exhaust.
Congrats! Would love to hear about your career milestone!!!
Ive officially qualified as a Pediatric Neurosurgeon and starting the job in July! After 17 years of post-secondary training. Feels good and was blessed to have been able to buy the 911 a few years ago, but it was a bit early and financially heavy. Now is the right time and Spyder feels perfect.
I still want a touring but will do it when the time is right!
Great color! I picked up a Gentian blue spyder recently. Previous owner installed Soul OAP's which really sound great. I then added the Cargraphix valve controller to enjoy that sound through the entire rev range when the valves are open. I found the valves closing from 1k to 4k rpms odd and distracting. Not sure I'll do much else as the car is just so good out of the box!
Congrats! I went from a 992.1 GTS manual to the 718 Spyder Manual mainly for the convertible. What I realized is the Spyder is more engaging and has the older, smaller analog driving experience. Very happy with it. I swapped out the back box exhaust for a JCR unit and really feel like it gave the added sound that I was looking for. Might add OAPs at some point and need to get Cargraphics controller to keep the valves open. No other mods planned. Car is good as is. I would be interested in your black wheels (OK, I guess that is a mod) if you want to sell them if/when you get new wheels. Enjoy your new Spyder!

wow - congrats, thats an amazing achievement. Kudos and wonderful for the kids you will help!
BTW, I always do valve controllers - I hate the constant opening/closing from the factory and love the ability to open/close at will. On my Spyder, I decided to go with the higher end Cargraphic controller that uses the factory EV switch rather than use the remote (which I have programmed into my HomeLink switches on my Cayman). Using the factory switch is REALLY nice! Well worth the extra money and added effort in wiring. (The wiring is straightforward, but not for the faint of heart to do. Seat out, tapping into two wiring harnesses, working under dash, etc. But really, just not that hard, just scary to think when done I was going to hit the turn signal and have the wipers or horn suddenly sound! LOL. But alas, nothing of the sort happens.)
And @murdog I had a 992 911T for 6 months next to my CGTS40. Sold the T and bought a Spyder instead. Mid-engine is the way to go IMO. (Although I can't stop lusting over older 911's these days! LOL)
Ahhhhh I love that so many others switched from modern 911s too. I loved my 911 and its a great car but I just want something more visceral as you all said. I value my right kidney too much to buy a touring in the present market. Im stoked!
I would very much love a trade for silver wheels if you anyone wants black. Theyve only got 3000 miles on them. PM me if interested and we can see if it would work
