Default 991.1S to 992.2T- thoughts?

I have a 991.1S with PDK that I bought CPO in 2019. Have enjoyed it a ton, but I can't help but miss the sensation of driving a manual (wife has manual 997.1 so driving that helps.) I have an opportunity to pick up a 992.2T in nearly the exact spec I wanted near MSRP. Had a quick spin in it and seems like a fantastic car. What has me hesitating is the delta between the two. MSRP starting at 148k$ adding options makes the car get expensive quickly. It doesn't help that WA now has an additional 8% luxury tax on automotive purchases above 100k. Anyone make a similar jump? Would welcome your thoughts.

Most important thing is depreciation

Also make sure color is grey, green or black always with tobacco or tan interior

If the money doesn't bother you then jump to the T. As an aside, consider yourself luck with the 8% lux tax over $100,000 (even if it is from dollar one). In Canada, our lux tax is 20% on the purchase price over $100,000 or 10% of the total value, whichever is less. In my case, my car has an SRP of $203,000CAD which attracts a lux tax of $20,000CAD ($14,700USD)

I should clarify. In WA state it is 10% on the total PLUS another 8% on the amount above $100,000. That is new since Jan 2026. So around $25k US total.

I just posted this in a separate thread, having come from a .1 S into a .2 T:

Just picked up my new .2 T over the weekend and am about 100 miles into it. After I break it in and can really get a feel for the engine, I'll make a post highlighting my experience with both cars. But from what I can tell after a short period of time:

-T is much more engaging - handling / suspension / steering feel. S is much more of a softer drive and better for street/highway.
-S is MUCH faster. Granted I've barely cracked 4k RPM, I can just tell the T motor won't have juice of the S. That thing was a rocket. That said, I was never able to really get the most of it - mix of driver ability and roads just not allowing for maximizing that much power.

OP, it's all about how much you want to drive a MT. I had had MT 911s for 25 years, but during and after the pandemic, I went in and out of an AT M8 and then an AT M4. Now I absolutely love my T and am happy I have it, but it was a very expensive trip back.

Go for it!

You can't do anything about the new WA luxury tax; you will have to pay that on any car purchase (over $100k) going forward. The only way to avoid this is keep what you have -- forever

The MY2027 prices in the U.S. will be released soon, and I can guarantee prices will go up. If the 992.2 T has most of the specs you want, go for it!!

Ah - probably an important detail. I can't speak to .1 S

I went from 991.1S PDK into 992.1T manual.

991 was a fantastic machine. I like my 992.1 T even more.

Manual gearbox is a large factor but the turbo 3.0 liter is a much more flexible engine, and I prefer it to the NA 3.8. Interior is far superior in the 992, but I did go from base interior to leather T package, so, can't say apples to apples.

My T was 138k and change all in. The newer ones are obviously more, but no one can really decide what's worth it to you.

Did you come from 992.1 or 991.1?

I mean, the PDK is probably the best automatic transmission there is so if you can’t live without a manual maybe look into a 991.2 or 992.1 Carrera GTS or S with a manual.. I think the 992.2 is simply too expensive for what it is

I thought about that too but every 992.1 S or GTS with a manual that I have seen is still listed above original MSRP. Tough finding the "value" proposition in this market...

I came from a 991.1 S to a T. The S was a loud rocket, the T is not. Where the S invited me to come out and play, the T wants go for a drive. I feel the T is a better car.
