Update on my "new to me" 19 Cayenne Turbo, 28,000 miles, purchased out of state. The car was delivered 5 days ago, It's driving well and no warning lights or other signs of problems.
Today, during a 30k maintenance service, my local indy found a broken turbo inlet pipe that wasn't discovered during the PPI. i took the car over to the nearby Porsche dealership to get their take. They estimated $2400 for the repair, stinks but not the end of the world. I ordered the part and scheduled the repair.
The Porsche Service Manager said he'd never seen this before and speculated it might have been broken by a tech pushing on it during a previous oil change or by the Indy shop today. if it happened at the last oil change, that was done 700 miles ago at the Bentley dealership i purchased the car from. This got me thinking about the turbo sucking in unfiltered air for an unknown period of time. Are there any addition diagnostics, inspections or precautions i should have the Porsche dealership do during the repair?
chassis, strange both the indy and Porsche said it was the Turbo inlet pipe. I'm no where near as knowledgable as you but the location of the broken pipe is here i think
sorry to all for being clueless, I had to leave the car at dealership so all I have is this one picture. We're supposed to leave home tomorrow for a month long trip, bad timing.
I'm now thinking the flange on the inlet is what broken.
If the V8 is similar to the V6, the OVS plastic tube is integrally molded with the black plastic turbo inlet nozzle/ring/duct. The nozzle can be broken by overtightening the rubber intake snorkel and in cases of rough handling during oil changes.
The mechanic could have broken this piece during an oil change.
The mechanic is using scary words with you to justify the scam price.
I was just curious what the part looked like and found this pair on eBay for $400 but it looks like a big shipping fee plus unknown import duties and it is a lot more parts than you need since it is both inlets plus related piping. https://www.ebay.com/itm/28722935276...SABEgKfnPD_BwE
Yep, another example of insane dealership mark ups, $2400 vs $618 (indy). Unfortunately, indy can't do it until next week.
I would DIY if there was time but we're leaving town for a month. Need the car so the dealership is my only option to get it done it time. Live and learn, don't schedule service 2 days before a long trip.
If I was in that situation, I might try slipping a silicon or rubber sleeve over the break and clamping at both ends or removing the part and epoxying it back together. It is not holding boost so the strength does not have to be great. Looks like there is just enough lip for a hose clamp. But you may not have epoxy or the right size sleeve or clamps on hand. I have lots of parts so I would be trying at least a temporary fix before spending $2k more than necessary.
