Default 970 4S transfer case service

New to me Panamera and new to this forum … not new to wrenching.

I’m very surprised how hard it is to find service information for the transfer case.

I’m not talking about the front (or rear) differential, and no … not the PDK.

I had my car on a friends lift recently, and I wish I took better pictures. I was able to find the drain, but unable to locate the fill plug.

Any information or advice will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

-Eric

If it's like my 971 then take a look about 3.5" up from the drain and just around the left edge when looking at the drain from the front of the car. Will be an M5 allen.

OK, that is extremely helpful. To be clear, the fill bolt is essentially facing the passenger side (on a left-hand drive vehicle)?

Correct. That's where it is on the 971. I suspect you have the same thing.

The vent on mine has been spitting a bit so I've been draining and filling with each oil change to flush it. I really should just flood it with solvent to flush it, but I've been lazy and haven't ordered the fittings for it.

I use a small oil pump can to fill it. Capacity is tiny (less than half a liter).

I have a detailed post on the breakdown/rebuild of the front diff on the 4s that may be useful.

Default transfer case/front differential

I am confused. The thread begins with: "I’m not talking about the front (or rear) differential, and no … not the PDK."

I can't find any reference to a transfer case other than the front differential. Aren't they the same?

My old eyes, I only saw "Not the PDK". The 4S only has a front and rear differential besides the PDK. There isn't any other kind of transfer case.

Thanks for confirming my understanding that there is no separate transfer case. Just the front differential and PDK.

Thinking more about the response by TIC_Clint, I now realize that he’s likely referring to the front differential.

I will need to look closer next time my car is on the lift. I’m getting conflicting information regarding this vehicle and a transfer case. I am definitely not trying to circulate misinformation, quite the opposite.

I talked to a tech at FCP euro regarding this. I was told that yes, in fact, there is one and he sold me the plugs to drain and fill it. This was after he gave me all of the information regarding the front and rear differential, so I do not believe he confused them.

Definitely not suggesting they are the end all and be all, but I’m trying to work with people that have more experience than myself.

You are correct - I am talking about the front.

I mis-read your initial post. That's on me.

FCP euro suggested I order part number 95530111501 (quantity two) and then one 850ml bottle of 00004330563 Porsche transfer case fluid

That part comes up as used for a Macan or Cayenne transfer case

yes, I’m aware but honestly, given how many parts are shared across platforms and brands, this isn’t necessarily telling in my opinion

That said, I guess I’ll assume there is not one unless I see a legitimate Porsche technical document stating otherwise… Thank you for your guys help.
