Default GTS OPTIONS: My24 CPO 992.1 Targa or New 992.2 Cabriolet

I've been struggling with this one for a while now. The Targa in today's numbers is a $255k build with full PPF selling for $215k, 2k miles. The new 992.2 Cab is a $215k build with front PPF (dealer wants $4k more). Warranty wise they work out about the same so that's a wash. The Targa has more options than I would ever order but that doesn't mean I don't like them. The Cab is missing the Ext Carbon Sports Pkg that I would want but is otherwise satisfactory in spec.

I ultimately probably won't know if I like a Targa or Cab more until I've experienced daily ownership. My wife is hot on the Targa but I'm probably pretty neutral. Both are appealing for many different reasons to me.

If I were to order new I'm somewhere between $223k and $333k. Then I'm adding $5k - $11k in PPF & Tint. I'd spec the base audio and add the Focal kit with separate amp. Nothing crazy in audio but figure I can have a much better experience than Bose or Burmester for the same or less money. Figure $5k more. If I buy off the lot I may never upgrade the audio.

CPO MY24 Targa 992.1 $215k 2k miles
NEW Cab 992.2 $217k (figure I get them to knock off $2k on the PPF)

Order Targa $249k all in
Order Cab $241k all in (ball park)

I'm normally a CPO/pre-owned guy obviously 911's are a completely different market and arguments can be made either way. The more financially practical decision seems to be buying off the lot. I only discuss the ordering options as I know some will bring it up. Aside from the extra money, who knows how I'll feel about an ordered car in a few months :P It actually helps just typing all this out, lol.

And to make things more complicated another Cab popped up over the weekend. With this many miles I will have to verify the condition still, but it's pretty highly optioned with specs and colors I like.

Cab 992.1 $170k 11k miles + $2500 for front PPF which I would add

I plan on doing the Porsche Experience Center to learn how to drive but don't ever see myself as a track guy. There's really no appealing new tech in the 992.2's to me. I don't like Porsche's PCM even in the 26's. Just give me CarPlay and I'm good. Friends say for the same money get the new car, but does a Targa with every option outplay that? The CPO Cab only gets me two years of warranty but there's obviously a big savings there. Then again getting the Targa gets my wife excited which obviously makes the experience more fun. Targa's do look cool.

Can you or have you test driven each?

Some people like Targas a lot, some people like cabs a lot, some people despise one or the other.

Generally Targas hold value better. But either way I would drive them both, top up and top down and see which one speaks to you more.

Not really a Targa vs Cabriolet thing. I’ve driven both, owned neither. As I’ve said, I’m pretty neutral and could see myself being happy with either. Targa looks better — Cab better open experience.

It’s more is it crazy to go with a 24’ over a brand new 26’? More enjoyment with “loaded” CPO Targa with full PPF or a nicely optioned new Cab with half PPF?

And I have no “piece of mind” feelings toward new cars.

If you don't care whether it is a Targa or Cab then what do you care about? The main difference here is 992.1 vs 992.2

992.1 GTS has similar engine as 992.2 C2S while the 2026 gts cab has the t-hybrid system. So it is faster and heavier. There are some cosmetic differences as well with the headlights and dash etc.

Also keep in mind the targas are all wheel drive and very heavy.

New Targa allocations are hard to get and usually come with ADM. Cost is obviouslt more on the 2026, and if history is any indicator then the targa will hold value better than a cab.

Take price out of the equation and figure out which 911 variant you like the best, then find one to buy!

Targa 7 days a week, and moreso when it's sunny. Oh yeah, the .1 2024 Targa.

Yep. That's it for the basically the same money.

I know there's no right answer here. I had a GTS 992.2 Coupe for about 3 months but no other experience to draw upon other than test drives and forums. Personally I don't feel the 992.2 is going to give me more other than just saying I have the latest. The only difference that really makes me notice is the front spoiler. If I took price and perceived value out of the equation I would probably order the Targa. It is a better feeling when the wife is into it more. Probably what I bump into is friends saying "if you would still be happy with a Cabriolet you're crazy not to get a new car for the same money". On the surface it seems a valid point.

I’m biased, but I say go for the Targa. It’s the better looking of the two models and doesn’t have all the hybrid shenanigans going on.

🤦

Do you really care about what your friends think about whether or not you buy a 2024 car or 2026 car?

There's so many other actual differences between the two cars that are much more meaningful than what your friends think....

I’m also biased but I would steer clear of the GTS hybrid. That’s why I waited 9mos to get a 4S.

In the End? no. But it's a valid point nonetheless.

Try driving both. I had Boxsters for many years, a bit different than the 911 cab, and now the Targa. They are different with the top down. The Targa gets more wind buffeting and noise at highway speeds. Takes a little getting used to. With the top up the Targa is similar to the coupe for noise, the cab will be a bit noisier. I prefer the looks of the Targa over the cab but that’s a personal choice. As stated the Targa is a heavy vehicle with the rear window and all wheel drive. I still really enjoy watch the top go down/up on the Targa, pretty amazing it all works.

All of the virtues of one or the other have been presented here already. The one thing I would add is that most people who obtain a Targa WANT a Targa. If you or your wife really WANT the Targa then GET the Targa. Don't downplay the value of emotion in a purchase like this.

I just bought a .1 GTS over a .2 yesterday, definitely go used targa no question about it. It will hold its value very well and looks the business.
As above, don't let a few thousand bucks sway your decision, at this point just get whatever you want to look at and drive regularly.

cab over targa anyday. Targa much noisier with wind buffeting, Targa is best for coupe guys who want to transition to a top down model. i have had 9 cabs and never regretted 4 season driving in NJ
