I had the top in service position to adjust my coilovers, and when I put the top back up, I heard a 'pop' as the top went into the fully closed (up) position. When I looked in the stowage area, I found this part sitting looseon the driver's side. It doesn't appear to have any broken parts to it. Does anyone have an idea of where it attaches to the top mechanism, or what its funciton is?
Thanks!
Where did you find this? Is front stowage in the frunk? Does the top and still work and fit properly? If we disregard the part you found for a moment, I could believe a 'pop' is the breaking of the rivet that holds the top cable. AutoAtlanta.com has all the exploded parts drawings for our cars. You might go take a look there. I went and looked at all the convertible parts, but none of them seem to match.
Thanks for the responses. I found the part in the 'TOP stowage' area, since it came off the convertible top. I'm a little reluctant to try to put the top back down until I know a little more about the detached part.
I'll look at the shop manual and see how it attaches and what its function may be. Thanks for the picture- I'm trying to 'see' my piece in relation to the hinge. Maybe it's just a guide that keeps the fabric out of the hinge.
Stay tuned!
This is a photo from eBay which shows the piece in a better light
Yes! That's the part! The piece that I pictured was not broken, but it probably broke of an attachment point from what's still on the car, so I'll probably have to buy the assembly.
Thanks! (I need the driver's side hinge)
