My 2017 991.2 C2S started to show Coolant system fault message on and off, usually it showed after driving the car a while, and sometimes it doesnt show up all the way. And when I tried to scan the code, it doesnt have any. Meanwhile, the coolant temperature are fine, and no overheating.
After read several thread and watched a couple of Youtube clips I started to hope it might just be the vacuum line loosen or something simple fix. The passing week, I opened the car up, but visually did not see much to worry, then I purchase a smoke machine and started the test.
I injected smoke from arrow below, and good news is no smoke leak has been spotted.
However, I noticed some tiny bid of brownish oil, are coming out from the left change over valve in the circled area in the photo. Does anyone know if this is normal? Is the valve okay, and where does the oil possibility come from?

Did you ever track down the source of the "coolant system fault? I'm periodically getting the same alert on my 991.2 C2.
COVs can be stuck closed or open when defective. You can test with a 9V battery and a handheld vacuum pump. You should hear an audible click when you connect and disconnect the leads and the vacuum gauge will drop when COV opens. Keep a couple spares so you can replace as needed.

so had the two COVs in your photo failed and you replaced them?

I have a 991.1 C4S so a little different locations but 1 you could see it was bulging and had a crack. The other was found defective using the 9v battery and vacuum test. Those things being daisy chained makes it a challenge to isolate. Sometimes you can have other symptoms like exhaust note change or heater not working that helps narrow it down.
