Wheel choice - GT3 or OZ Allegerita
2002 C4S
Hey all, my turbo twists have seen better days, they're scratched and scuffed and I suspect are not quite as round as they used to be too. I'm thinking of replacing them for either a set of GT3s or OZ Allegerita's. Driving is mainly fast road with the odd track day. If I can drop some unsprung weight that would be great. UK roads are pretty poor so something that's not going to fail at the first pot hole is important!
Any experience or suggestions between these two?

If u had to choose from only those 2 the gt3 wheel is the winner. The oz wheel is much lighter and a nice wheel but its really meant for the track. I have 1 or 2 out of round from just the track curbing. No way they would last on bad roads.
The gt3 wheels look great and hold up for every day use. Some other wheels u might be able ro get over the pond that may be a better lighter choice r Apex, Tec or BBS 2 piece. Cost will vary but they will all be lighter then the gt3 and hold up

Thanks for the replies so far. It looks.like I can take the Allegeritas off the list. I can source 2nd hand GT3 wheels for around 2-2.5k. Apex are around 8-900 per wheel from a quick search 😬

Thats about double the price for us depending on your wheel choice. I run the sm10 wheel and its about $425 retail. They do offer specials occasionally like free shipping or buy 3 get 1 free.

I would also consider just getting some Hollow Spoke Turbo twists. Wont change the look but will definitely help with unsprung weight

Interesting, I just ordered OZ Allegeritas in 18 to replace the 19s that came on my car.
De Jeeper I believe your experience but these wheels are so cheap and so light, the value proposition is too good to not try it out. The reviews I read across a number of forums suggested good durability. Looks like they have made them for a long time so there should be availability if I need to replace one or more.
Apex are great but rears only come in 18x11, I wanted 10s.
The 19s I have are total pigs and way too much for my C2 cab. Weight savings for me is going to be 11lbs per corner or 44lbs all in.

Get a set of 18" Carrera II, the wheel that was introduced/came standard on the 996 Mk2.
Very light and a lot cheaper than hollow spoke turbo twists or gt3 wheels.
What gt3 wheels would you be looking into? 2-piece Mk1 are heavy, mk2 aren't light either but offer +½" front and +1" rear width compared to all narrow body fitment wheel widths.

My OZ in GT3 sizing(18x11" & 18x8.5") are lighter than my Carrera IIs in standard Carrera sizing.(18x10" & 18x7.5")
I prefer the looks of my OZ over my Carrera IIs, but I've been tempted to repaint my OZ a different color.
Right now they are Gloss black.
The Carerra IIs are really good looking wheels too in my opinion.

There is also the Sport Tehno wheel. Its a factory option that comes in the gt3 size and weighs the same as the hollow spokes. I have a set of those too.

OEM GT3 wheels are going to be much more stout than the OZ wheels. Not familiar with the Carrera II wheels, but I would bet they will handle poor roads better than aftermarket wheels.
I would consider strength of wheels over weight in your shoes.

I have raced on OZ wheels for a number of years although they are cast wheels I checked them after each event and they have held up well. I like the Sport Design wheels for street use and occasional DE track use those BBS are strong but they do add weight.

Yep, if you want 8x18 and 10x18 wheels that are very light and strong, which are also true to the Porsche 996.2, consider the Carrera 2s. I have 2 sets of them. One set is mainly for the track and one set is for the street. After 22 years, I have never once had a strength or durability problem with either set. You can also add different size spacers to get the look you want based on what size tires you choose.
Yeah, and they are very easy to clean.
