Yes Oil Catch Cans work. I'm a firm believer.
Makes me happy every time I drain mine.

Personally - I only use these on turbo'd engines and they definitely work on those. Typically keeps oil drops of oil from going through the turbo intakes, where you will see that little puff of smoke coming out the tailpipes when driving from a stop.
Common when you see traces of oil on the intake side of the turbo itself.

I've never installed one on a N/A engine.

Yes - they work! The AOS isn't very effective at all. If you don't believe me, just remove the breather hose at the intake manifold behind the throttle body and take a look at how much oil is in there. I had my intake manifold off last year to replace my AC compressor. I was shocked at how much debris and build up was in the intake valve ports and inside the manifold itself. My car has 69k miles, so I expected some build up, but after cleaning my stumbling and hesitation went away entirely. I've also seen intake ports with just 18k on them and looked nearly as bad as mine did. I installed a catch can in the spring and drain it when doing oil changes after track events. I get a couple ounces out of it at each draining, and have also noticed significantly less soot on my tailpipes and rear bumper. For those of you who might say it's oil blow-by on the piston rings, I can assure you that there is no possible way the oil would get into the can from that source. It plugs in to the outlet on the AOS, and sits inline before the intake manifold. The only source can be the AOS. I also replaced the AOS in the fall when I replaced the AC compressor, so I know it's not faulty. My car is a 2014 Cayman S that sees both track and street duty. Even if I didn't track, I would still add one just for preventative purposes, because of the DFI engine, there just isn't any valve wash-down.

Do a search for my “before and after walnut blasting” thread. I also include pics and updates of my oil drained from my Dead End Motorsports 981-specific catch can.
