Default Oilleak and engine stuck gt3 991.1

Hi
yesterday after some stints on a trackday - the engine and gearbox worked good - the power get down an the display tells me there is an engine problem - but you can already drive with reduced power.

I entered the paddock and some engine oil drops on the ground- about 10cm diameter .

A mechanic was there who works on Porsche engines, he told me to start the engine to see if there are some noices! The engine turns a little but dont want to start, then it seems the engine get stucked?

Today I have the car on the hub and there is some motoroil between engine and gearbox.

Had someone from you such a failure?

see pictures

bye Wolfgang

I'm not a mechanic, but I had a very similar symptom. I never got a check engine light, but I came off track and had a similar amount of oil. Towed to the dealer and they found a rear main seal (which I'm guessing is where your leak is coming from) and one of the head gaskets leaking. Since that's an engine out service for the seals and gaskets, I agreed to pay additional cost to pull the heads and inspect the finger followers. If they were worn, they'd swap the engine under warranty and if not, I'd pay as agreed. They found wear and replaced the engine under warranty. Hard to say what the root cause of all the leaks all at once were on mine, but I got a new engine out of the deal. They also found my flywheel in a pretty sad state (tons of play), so that was replaced as well. Again, not sure if there's any connection there, but I strongly recommend going that route assuming you're on a non-G6 engine and still under the 10yr warranty.

Stuck is a bad sign anyway... but if you are in the 10y period, you might be lucky to get a free new engine regardless of the issue.

Hi
I have already the G6 engine. The previos owner of the car get changed it.

I am located in Europe and i dont have any garentee on the engine so i first want to check by myself.

Perhaps its only a damaged flywheel so first i want to take off only the gearbox.

I let you know if i know more.

Maybe... is the car older than 10 years?

I had a PDK failure... or it could be the seal between engine and transmission. But if you are in the 10y period, I would bring it to a porsche dealer... just in case.

I think the engine swap was about 4 years ago, also the gearbox. But in Europe there is no extended warenty like in the US?

Unfortunatly i cannot seperate the gearbox from the engine.

I have to take out the whole unit - lets see - perhaps tomorrow i know more?

Today i checked the spark plugs - all 6 are ok no damage. Then i opened the valve cover- the oil has no metal shavigs, the cam shafts are ok, all valvefingers looking good.
The chain is ok, not loose.

Without „fixing“ the camshafts I dont want to turn the crankshaft.

I have removed the flywheel - there is some oil on the sealing ring behind. The flywheel has some play - see attached video.

about 20000 km but the previos owner did. some extensive trackdays and drove the car to the limit.

i have driven about 15000 km (from the 20000) but mostly street and a few trackdays.

the engine dont consume any oil!

I have been told that the GT3 flywheel has some grease that is packed in, and the grease can melt away on the GT3pdk cars..

I don't know a whole lot about the flywheel in these cars but I would be surprised if that movement in the video is normal.

Judging by the looks of that engine, the symptoms, grease from the transmission area, flywheel movement... this feels more like an issue on the PDK side of things rather than the engine. Almost as if it is stuck in gear or something.

the gearbox turns free - but i if noticed a „heat Spot“ in the crankcase.
perhaps there is the issue if the problem - the flywheel hab to much play and a bearing in this aerea get to hot?
yesterday i tried a used flywheel from a turbo and there was absolutly no play!
