Default Porsche 924 CGT vs 944 Turbo

Did anyone in the forum experience both models and have a view which one is better for overall B-roads and driving experience? How these compare in regards of reliability these days and parts availability? Is 944 Turbo simply evolution of 924 CGT? (sorry if this answered but I could not find such a thread)

That's a tough comparison to make considering CGT's have sold for over a quarter million recently and a great 951 can still be had well under $40k.

932, not a 937 but might be as close as you're going to get

Thank you for the link, that article I will gladly read. In EU 924 Carrera GT sales for 60-80k EUR, while 944 Turbo from 20-50k EUR. At upper end prices are not that far apart any more.

If I could afford to pay someone to do all the maintenance work I would pick the 924 CGT. I think it looks awesome, it's got race homologation provenance, I like the interior better, I will almost always pick the older of any two car choices.
But if I was doing all my own work I would pick the 951. Having both a 944 and a 924 parked out back I can tell you I'm not a fan of wrenching on the 924 at all. Parts are more scarce, there appears to be more running changes of parts with no great information of when they happened, everything about the mechanicals feels like a parts bin car where they built it based on what they had on hand, not based on what was the best engineering solution. The fuel system is a pain. Its just not fun to work on. Any 944 by feels like a very well thought out and engineered car by comparison.

Thank you Tony, indeed the maintenance would be expensive and tricky. I suppose 944 Turbo is more sensible and cost-wise attractive choice.

I don't have a CGT but I do have a mildly modified '81 931 and a mildly modified 951

My 931 is probably near the same HP output of a CGT with increased boost, top mount intercooler and full 3" exhaust. It also has a complete Wilwood brake upgrade.
So, other than looks, it probably feels similar.

With that said, I would pick the 931 over the 951 all day, everyday and twice on Sunday. The 931 feels small and nimble. I'm sure the partly because of the narrow body but I love how tossible it feels.

Go get yourself a sorted 931 and mod it a little. Such an amazing car
