Default Car flooded!

Last night we had an unreal amount of rain, my car was parked outside as I was doing the brakes on my 964. I awoke to the alarm going off at 5am and could not turn it off, so I had to disconnect the battery. Went outside this AM and there's alot of water mainly on the driver's side rear mat and under the pass seat/driver side.

When I connect the battery, all I get is relays moving on/off and a loud howling/buzzing coming from right at the fuel filler door. The car will cycle on to accessory and everything works, my COBB recognizes the ECU, but when I go to crank it, nothing, like a totally dead battery.

I will be pulling the driver's seat today and looking around, but any help on where I should start would be awesome. And what's the buzzing on the fuel door?

Thanks!

Dude I can't help you with diagnostics (guru's here will be better than me!) But that's awful. Sorry. Hopefully it's a pretty easy fix (and find where the water is coming in!

Man, it's disappointing for sure. Car sits in the garage all the time, and was out for more room so I could get work done. I said I'd move it later. I'm sure the sunroof drains are probably backed up. My cayenne was dry and those are notorious for leaking.

I'll take it apart later and hopefully can get it to work.

There's two modules under the driver seat that probably got flooded. They're actually sealed relatively well (almost as if Porsche knew they'd eventually get flooded...), so it might just be shorting from wet plugs. Pull up the carpet, vacuum out the water (the foam holds A LOT of water), keep the carpet propped up with something and run a fan on it for a few days to dry everything out.

This is perfect, thanks. I was thinking it was the alarm module under the seat. I am gonna pull the interior shortly and start drying everything. I have some good fans I can get under the carpet.

yup pull the driver's seat, get the alarm module out asap and pull the casing off it and dry/spray the circuit board down with wd40 or similar

Shoot I'd take both seats out and the carpet or you will get mold.

Pass side is bone dry. I have experience with the cayenne and thick jute/foam under the carpet, it should dry well. I think this was just overwhelming. The road around the block from me totally washed out, dam collapsed taking the road with it and emptied the entire pond. This was a crazy storm. They said some towns got like 10"+ of rain in a few hours. Never seen anything like it.

I wonder if the noise coming from the filler door is the alarm module cycling the filler door lock rapidly. I have never actually confirmed we have filler door locks on 996TT but failed filler door lock electronics caused all sorts of alarm issues on a 997TT I worked on. Either way I think the root of your issues is the alarm module under the seat. It is possible to bypass the alarm module to start the car and confirm everything else works if you know your way around a wiring diagram and wanted to go that route. Sorry to hear what happened.

Exactly what I was thinking. We do have locks on the fuel filler door. I'm thinking it was just constantly trying to cycle. That noise has stopped. I still hear clicking near the headlights, but I'm certain it's the immobilizer. I'm hoping to get it all apart shortly. I already have a fan drying everything and the doors open.

There's a company that also can disable the immobilizer, but I have no real desire to do that. I'm sure I can get it working shortly.

yes all locks including the fuel door AFAIK run on the alarm module, once its dried out if should be 100% again
