Default abs pump dead

Just heard from my indie that the abs pump is dead / electronic module are not usable after sending it all out to be checked and/or rebuilt. Seems that this is not an option - what is the best way to move forward? A new unit is 4-6k (which is crazy). It is for a 2001 996 without PSM, has anyone else had this issue and how did you resolve it?

Seems like these are very specific as to year and if PSM or not. An internet Porsche dealership parts dept quoted me @8,500.00 and on backorder with no idea of when it might come in. Any assistance would be appreciated

At that price, I would be looking at a good used or rebuilt part.

An '01 with no PSM should have 5 metal pipes attached to the ABS unit.
If you confirm that you can use an ABS from a boxster. Just make sure it also has 5 metal pipes. I have bought these on ebay for less than $50.

But if the 996 comes without PSM it could still have TC. In that case you need an ABS unit with 6 pipes: 2 for the MC and 1 to each wheel.
No TC means only 1 pipe from ABS going to the rear axle where it is split to left and right.

I had my indy source a used unit that tested ok and had it replaced. All good now, and saved over 5k! At this rate I can replace at least 4-5 of them if it goes bad again - but the first one lasted @ 100k.... thanks for all the ideas
