Loving my new, 2024 Macan S, but just one word of caution: Those rear tires are wide, and the rim definitely sits proud of the tire. In 30,000+ miles on my 2020 Base Macan with 19" rims, I never once curbed a rim. After just 200 miles on my new Macan, I nicked the right rear rim. Notice in the picture below how the rubber is totally untouched, just the rim. Yes, those tires are wide, and the rim sits significantly proud of the tire itself. Be careful out there!! On the bright side, lesson learned early. It only cost me $450+tax to get it repaired which was a no brainer since the rest of the vehicle is showroom new.

And it's not like I babied my 2020 Macan. The trailed in Idaho's Sawtooth Range required 65 miles of dirt roads in each direction. The 2020 Macan handled it perfectly.

Good thing you didn't go with 21", those have a nearly non-existent rim protector. I have a set of 21" and 20" wheels and just this past week I installed a set of OE Cayenne tires that may interest you considering your off-road journeys.

They are a +1 size of 275/45/20 and 305/40/20. It's slightly more diameter, width and a little extra rim protection. It will raise the car slightly by a few mm but also close the wheel gap, both a plus for an SUV. I can share photos once installed if interested.

I've been thinking about up sizing as well when the time comes for new tires. The 265s in the front seem to offer some rubber past the rim but the 295s in the rear sit flush with the rim. Not sure why they didn't go with 275/305 or even 275/315 from the factory.

I picked up a used 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (manual) for my off roading these days. The Macan won't see more than an occasional gravel driveway. But if I ever downsize to just one car, I'll definitely look into this.

Some tires or brands tend to be wider. I noticed on my Michelin PS4 SUV set (not an "N" tire) they were wider than the OE Goodyear Eagle A/S N0 I replaced. They definitely had more meat in the rear. After experimenting with -2 and -1 sizes (245/45/20 + 275/40/20 and 255/45/20 and 285/40/20), it was clear that the smaller sizes drastically improved the driving experience in most spirited settings but had other drawbacks in the looks and versatility department. I think the OE 265/295 setup is good compromise to balance responsiveness, aesthetics, and multi-surface capability.

This thread below gave me the idea after liking the overall look, I even liked the red wheels in that specific setup. The tires are 275/45 on a 10" wheel so they aren't as meaty as my Cayenne setup:

Congrats on your '24 S! Bummer about the curbing. I love my '23 S (same wheels as yours). You really have to get into a summer/sport tire to get any kind of curb protection, but even then you can still easily curb one in the right conditions. I rely heavily on the Surround View whenever there is a curb around... without it, I'm certain I'd have scuffed a couple rims more than once.

Fortunately, it looks like you just barely kissed the curb, so the repair should be nearly unnoticeable.

Why did you pay that much for a wheel repair (is a 20-40 minutes job), they definitely ripped you off!!! I have a guy who I call and he comes to my house and repairs my rims within 30 minutes and it all costs me 100 bucks. I had to use his service 3 times on 2 of my cars, including the Macan. The job he did on the Macan is the least perfect job but still good enough and if you wouldn't know that it was repaired, you wouldn't notice it. The damage I had on mine was more serious, not necessarily on the wheel side but on the tire side. There was small chunk of the tire which had come off. I just went ahead and replaced the tire, which had less than 1500 miles or so. The dealership said it was not necessary but I didn't want to take any risks. Anyway, when this happens again, google mobile wheel repair and don't pay more than 150 bucks for any wheel repair, 450 is a monster rip off.
