Default Is pdk oil service really a DIY procedure?

This could be an up and coming item.. the stealership changes an arm and a leg and your other limbs for this procedure... I recently saw a maintenance kit with Fuchs oils at fcp... but is this really a DIY able thing? I have a foxwell...

could be wrong, but I think its a PIWIS calibration thing that goes along with the change of fluid, others can chime in who have the repair bills

No need to do a calibration but there is a fill procedure in PIWIS that you are supposed to run. Other than that it's very straightforward. Helps to have a lift though.

Any Special tools needed to make things easier? Also a parts list from those who have done this procedure successfully...

For what it costs, I am not brave enough to DIY this one--and engines don't scare me.

How much did the dealer quote you for this service?

Other than PIWIS or equivalent for the fill procedure no special tools required. A simple hand pump for the fluid fill and typical hand tools only. Only parts you need are washers for the fill/drain plugs. Pan if you want to replace the filter for the clutch side fluid.

That's what I paid also.

I would be interested to know what the OP was quoted for the service...

I'm not sure that I understand the economics of your decision to DIY.

The maintenance kit from FCP looks like it costs $634 (less $49 July 4th sale.) That maintenance kit is for the PDK clutch fluid change service.

Are you looking to do just the gear oil without doing the clutch fluid change??

I'd self perform a knee replacement before I did a PDK service as DIY.

Need to be careful when comparing dealership quotes for the PDK clutch fluid service, as it can be with or without the pan/filter replacement. The dealership will charge Porsche MSRP for parts unless you are getting some kind of deal. This includes:
.
  • $501 for the pan (Porsche MSRP)
  • $144 for the PDK fluid, qty 4 @ $36/liter (Porsche MSRP)

So it's already at $645 just for parts. Plus the dealership will sometimes charge for 6 liters of fluid which is the dry fill capacity (I've seen this happen several times). When replacing the fluid it only takes four liters. Add a couple hours labor and it's not uncommon to be quoted $1k for a dealership PDK fluid change.

Plus as usual with FCP Euro their kits seem like a good deal but it's really not so great (that lifetime warranty isn't free). You can buy a genuine Porsche pan for $370 from Sunset Porsche.

https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/o...-pan-9p1321359

Some shops that specialize in PDK repairs are now using URO's aluminum replacement pan with a replaceable filter. It's just a fluid pan and not rocket science. I've seen good reviews on this and will switch to it at my next PDK fluid change. It's only $211 at Rock Auto:

https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...AkEjlAaIlnjGsR

Note also that the FCE Euro fluid isn't genuine Porsche but Fuchs DCTF. This is fine as you don't need genuine Porsche, but they are selling you six quarts (when you only need four) at $21/liter ($127 total). You can buy four quarts for $17/each ($78) from eeuropoarts.com. There are other respected brands of DCTF available even cheaper.

https://eeuroparts.com/product/fuchs/800363954

So you can get all the parts you need including a genuine Porsche pan for ~ $450. If you go with the URO aluminum pan it's ~ $300.

Plus you don't need a PIWIS to change the fluid as shown in this write up by @jjrichar here. I've used this method and ran it with my PIWIS afterwards and the level was perfect.

https://www.planet-9.com/threads/diy...l-mode.237865/

Add to that that higher end scan tools now include the clutch fluid fill command. My Foxwell NT530 with the Porsche module (~$170) has it. I've also got a PIWIS but I usually grab the Foxwell for simple stuff as it's easier to use.

We have lots of great options that don't require a trip to the dealer. Plus people can definitely do better on price than that FCP Euro kit. If you are thinking about going to the dealer make sure you get details on exactly what the service includes. I'd be very surprised to see quotes under $1k these days including a pan replacement.

Edit: Noticed too that the FCP Euro kit also includes $40 in thirteen replacement bolts. The WM does say to replace these (though I doubt it's required, I've reused them without problems) but I forgot to factor that into my numbers above. They are also available from Sunset Porsche Parts for $36 so FCP's price isn't excessive.
