Default Keeping long term and adding miles

Planning to keep my 992 for the long term and want to know what everyone's thoughts are on adding a lot of mileage to these cars? By high mileage, I am thinking 8-9K miles a year as I am using this as a daily driver. Does this seem viable in the long run, and will these cars last beyond 100K miles?

I drove this 911 (my first one) to 231,000 miles and only sold it because it was rusting....these are tough cars.

You know Carol Shelby once said "It's a good thing LeMans is only 24 hours, because if it were 48 hours, the only cars left would be Porsches"

Unless you have the need (and the space) for a more practical second vehicle then absolutely you should daily your 911. The more hours you spend behind the wheel, the more joy you can bring into your life.

This is 100% true. Drive your 911, my friend. These cars were engineered to take insane speed autobahn runs to work daily. So, not only drive it, drive like it was meant to be driven.

PS - I'd swear the 3.6L in my 2006 997 got even more powerful when I passed 60,000 miles. The more you drive them the better they get.

I daily my 992. I have other cars, but I've got 30k miles on it over the past 4 years. It's fine, it's a car it's meant to be driven. No problems so far. When I'm done driving it or done with it, I will sell it and get something else and do it all over again. It's a car... I think that is how it's supposed to work. I treat it the same I would a Camry or Corolla. Well, maybe a little bit better than that But you get my point.

It will last beyond 100k. Keep up with service schedule and you’ll be fine.

Man, I want to put more miles on the car but I work remotely and don't have much reason to drive long distance in it. I used to drive it very often but I do get bored of it, similar to eating a Michelin star restaurant everyday...you get tired of it.
I got a 740iL and Cayenne Diesel to introduce some contrast in my driving experience, but it's only been short drives lately which isn't healthy for any engine. My 992 now has 9200 miles after 13 months.

I wish I could, or rather…..chose, to drive my 992 more. After more than two years of ownership, I only have 4800 miles on my car. I commute from NV to CA for work, so my 2021 Corolla does the lion’s share of the commute work. I care less about the Corolla, so it’s just easier on the mind to drive. Even prior to moving to NV, I still didn’t drive the 992 or my prior ///M’s to work. The 992 isn’t really well suited for lugging around war bags and police equipment that’ll dent and scratch metal surfaces and tear up carpeted or leather surfaces (….you should see what equipment alone will do to these Explorer patrol SUV’s). I do love my 992 dearly, however, and I spend a lot of time with her in the garage.

For those keeping long term and putting miles on them - are you getting extended warranties?

I kept my 991.2 GTS for 5 years and traded just shy of 50K miles .

1) I had no extended warranty outdo of Geico MBI . I have heard nothing buy praise for MBI yet I myself never made a claim . I have not searched RL but do suggest searching Macan Forum as multiple members discussed their experiences.
Popular aftermarket wariernty were Fidelity and Safeguard but frankly they are expensive and in my case the car did not break .

I also have a 17 year old modified 997.1 turbo . I have no extended warranty . For the first 15 years the car did not break and then POW things happened . I learned a few things . First the shop does get to know each customer and if a person is picky and complains all the time that are less likely to help you . However if a customer is respectful and problems arise they can work with you to make the bill a bit less painful . another point is if you decide to modify the car . When the car is new everyone has the aftermarket parts but try and het them 18 years later and it can be like hiding a brick wall . The upside is that in my case I got lucky. Not only was ,my tuner still in business but he had updated and revised both the software and parts for the car. I ended up with a repaired car that was better than it ever was but that was just pure luck . It did cost me 50K .
The reason is that when something like a coolant hose breaks on a new car they bolt replace the one hose but an old car they replace all the hoses . An engine out repair is expensive .

2) I generally dont keep my cars long term and in order to do so I have to feel the car is irreplaceable . Understand that a stock 992 will go down in value and a big ticket repair late in. its life might cost almost as much as the car ids worth .

At 8 or 9K at year you will have say 70K after 8 years. Your car will depreciate and be worth maybe half of what you paid, but you will have enjoyed your car. The car will probably not be pristine and have some bumps and bruises. Technology will make your car outdated and you may want another car. If you have the discretionary money, great get another, if not you will have an old 911. That is my take.

These cars will do the mileage and over 100K seems to be fairly common if/when one searches on-line for used Porsche's. However, 100K+ on the car definitely affects the emotional value, in a negative way, for a lot of prospective buyers. The result is that when one hits about 90K it's either a good time to sell the car (any car) or plan to keep it a lot longer. The hit to the resale value of any car when near to or past 100K can be substantial.
