Default Steering wheel removal fail...

On scale of one to a lot - how much is this going to cost me? And do you think it will be drivable if I don't reconnect the airbag sensors, obviously nothing else will work on the wheel, but would imagine it would still drive in auto.

Ouch. I think I saw someone quote $1500 to replace the clock spring at the dealer. The bigger issue is part availability. I’m assuming you didn’t have the green connector fully disconnected?

Not that big of a deal if you're able to get the ribbons correctly reseated inside the clockspring case. It goes clockwise with the ribbons folding on themselves. Picture a flower with petals. Hard to explain. Wear gloves. The petroleum jelly like substance can get super annoying.

is the plastic container broken? if not, fairly easy to rewind - I've done it several times trying to retrofit heated wheel to my GT3. You can't buy the clockspring - you have to buy the entire switch unit, but it's about $650 if I remember, so expensive but not that bad. If you replace it though, you will have to re-calibrate with PIWIS. I have a few extra clock spring cases if you broke the case, or you could send it to me and I'll rewind and and send it back to you. If you do take it off, be careful not to move the white plastic gear under it - that sets the steering angle, and if you move it, you will have to re-calibrate. The clockspring comes off with one screw on the bottom, and a clip on the top - just carefully remove it and leave the white plastic ring in place - there is a metal ring as well that will fall out - just grab it and keep to reinstall. If you have time, send the parts to me, and i'll rewind it for you, and you can see if it will reinstall without calibration. PM me if I can help.

FYI, your will probably get a transmission fail if you try and reinstall and power up as the paddles won't work. You will also get a TON of other faults. .

Ha - yeah, that just happened. Thought I got everything reseated and looked good, back together. Then that.

its just a rotating connection between the buttons on the steering wheel and the car - just wound up conductors that allows the wheel to rotate while retaining an electrical connection.

That...is mega, appreciate the offer. Will give it another go tomorrow, usually good at this stuff, but **** happens, probably just best to start fresh. Will call my dealer in the morning, but does anyone happen to know the part number in the meantime? '23 targa GTS w/no adaptive cruise control or LKA whatever, if that matters

Here is the PN for your steering column switch - 992 953 502 FD HUO -

https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/o...g2LWdhcw%3D%3D

$648 at Sunset. . . as stated previously, you cannot purchase just the clockspring from Porsche, but you can buy them off of ebay - may Audi's use the same one. I'd first try and fix your clockspring, or find a used one as replacing the entire switch unit requires a trip to the dealer unless you have piwis - after replacing the switch unit, you and to calibrate the steering angle, and then calibrate the power steering. Easy, but you have to have PIWIS.

OP

This should go back clockwise or anticlockwise. There are small grooves where the rectangle pieces fit in like a puzzle.

Would like to avoid this scenario- any tips for removing the yellow connector with green tab? Tab pulled out but connector doesn't seem to want to release…afraid to pull too hard.

One video suggested to push down on connector and it will release but that isn’t helping either.
