that’s a quote from an article online about it today. So I wouldn’t say it’s a gts competitor except maybe at price point. From performance it looks like a turbo gt competitor. Looks like a pretty compelling package overall especially at that price. Question would be which one is more fun to drive and is the turbo gt really 60 k more vehicle.

Performance wise, looks like it’s between a GTS and TGT. I don’t own either but my money’s on the TGT.
I’ve always been an Audi fanboy but the Q8 platform just doesn’t excite me. I absolutely love my R8 and I will keep it until ingress/egress gets to be a challenge but I personally prefer P-cars. Nonetheless, the RS Q8 appears to be an excellent performance SUV with a fair price point.

“It is only 14kW down on its Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT sibling – yet the Audi is faster around Germany's Nürburgring Nordschleife race track, recording a 7min 36.698sec lap as a new SUV record, ahead of the Porsche's 7min 38.925sec time.”

i had an SQ8 on order w audi for a year and a half, and i ended up going w a cayenne base coupe. the steering and handling in the porsche felt noticeably better than in the audi cars i drove. doesn’t mean they performed better i suppose. i have a friend w a tesla model 3 performance. way faster than my base coupe, yet i would not trade for it because the porsche drives nicer, by a lot imo. speed isn’t everything. but if it is electrics win. nearly all the time. outside of the elite trimmed upper end models, which of course cost 4x what a tesla costs.

RSQ8 Performance is a direct competitor to TGT. Just look at the performance. Both cars have them identical. Let's wait for the first tests, but probably that both vehicles will be similar in terms of handling.
However, I think that with the RSQ8 Performance we get more car for less money. It's strange that VAG decided to position these two cars so closely. Although the EU TGT is a hybrid with 740HP, so it's a slightly different story.

I've had a SQ7 for (2) years and the one thing that Audi could never match was the suspension tuning/dynamics and the steering feel of Porsche. The SQ7's steering was always vague and lots of play on center and the suspension/roll system just didnt let the car be flat in the corners. I think these cars are still more competitors to the first gen 9y0 turbos than the TGT.
However it was serious bang for your buck and near perfect sized vehicle. The exhaust note was so good and the B&O sound was excellent. Luckily I sold the car before it took a dump towards the end of the pandemic.

Is there an Audi version of PDCC that comes on this car - I would think it has to to get close to the TGT? Seems the rs6 would really benefit from something to control all the body movement.

Yes it does, the dynamic package. Mainly what the 48V battery is for I believe. The dynamic package is standard in the performance version. Audi basically made the performance version with the exact same power output as the first urus (640hp and 850nm of torque).

I was comparing the SQ8 and RSQ8 to the Cayenne before buying the 22 GTS. At the time both were more HP but the 500 pound weight difference typically put the Cayenne GTS performing better than the SQ8 and the Turbo was better than the RSQ8. It was very difficult to see the RS at the time as most dealers had over a year waiting list. While many of the components are the same between the 2 the tuning and use of lighter weight materials does make a difference. Maybe the update RS has been improved enough to compete but that would need to be proven out. The TGT is a very well tuned and refined vehicle.

The new RSQ8 can now be configured in the EU. Here are the prices in Euro from the German market. This gives you an idea of the price levels and differences between models. I think that in the USA the price differences will be similar, although the prices are obviously much lower.
RSQ8 - 141,9k Euro
RSQ8P - 155,7k Euro
To compare prices of Cayenne Coupe:
GTS - 145,3 Euro
Turbo e-Hybrid - 189,3k Euro
Turbo GT - 215,6k Euro
I still think that new RSQ8 Performance with it's price is a very competitive offer vs Cayenne.
