Default Rear Tire Wear

I think I may know the answer, but just curious if anyone else has had rear inner tire wear- scalloping specfically. I posted a while back of the tires getting really loud, and I just noticed the rear inners are wearing bumpy. My thinking is the shocks are bad as both sides are the same. Shocks are KWv3 not terribly old, but probably some miles on them, but still, seems premature for both rear shocks to fail in under what, maybe less than 10 years? Everything else is fine/tight. Sucks to have to send them out, gonna try to wait till winter.

I'll take a pic. Tires are rt660, 315/30/18. The maybe have like 5-6k on them. You can def see and moreso feel it as you run your hand along the inner tread edge. Funny as my last rt615 did this in the front, and I figured the struts were bad and changed them front/rear and now a few years later, the rears are doing it.

If you've gotten 5-6k miles out of RT660's, you've done really, really well. I'd get maybe 4000 miles out of them. On a side note, I can't stand KW, have fun with their warranty/rebuild policies and times. BTDT, never again....

I don't see how the rear shock would cause that. They dampen and hold the car up but aren't responsible for aligning anything where the front MacPherson style strut could throw off the alignment if it were messed up I think. It's probably an alignment issue with loose bushes or maybe the toe?

It's a known symptom of bad shocks/struts. They cause bouncing you can't really see I guess, but makes those tell-tale wearing indicators (scalloping). I will check the alignment too, but it was just recently aligned and all the marks appear to have not moved.

My guess is that it has to do with a lack rear toe in and or too much camber. I am not familiar with those tires and their wear. I have been through multiple sets of PS2 and PS4S and have never seen scalloping, just inner edge wear

Alignment is cheaper, maybe I'll start there.

You really should be able to tell if you lack dampening. I have adjustable stuff and when I dial out the dampening the suspension noticeably bounces. Do you have the adjustable toe arms?

Adjustable everything. Car is super stiff, so bouncing it doesn't really do much. After the fronts exhibited similar wear on old suspension, it was swapped to the KW and the front tires still look great. I'm thinking rears need rebuild.

You can pretty accurately check your alignment with a tape measure and a cell phone with the spirit level app.

pics attached for those interested. Tires aren’t terrible, inner wear can def be felt and sounds awful. Like a womp, womp rhythmic sound.

Mine is lowered slightly. There is visual camber. Rear tires wear out very rapidly.

Do you have a picture of your entire car? A lot of body mods it seems.

Doesn't look like a 996 car to me.
