Default Assistance Requested - wingless' 1986 911 Door Stop Pin Movement / Noise

The driver's side door makes a double clunk / snap noise when opening and closing.

The noise source was pinpointed to the door stop pin shown in the image.

The bottom of that pin moves when opening / closing, as the door moves over the bumps in the door stop lever.

Everything has been lubricated. What steps (if any) should be taken for this issue?

Thanks in-advance for any / all assistance.

that's likely NOT going to be the pin, the inside of your door metal is likely torn .. peer to that hole to your left and you will see where the door stop has torn away the metal, can be viewed from the inside by removing door panel also. The double clunk you are hearing is the metal pulling away.

if it hasn't gotten too bad there are kits to repair this.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

In this case I can visually already see the bottom of the pin wiggling, with direct correlation to the audible noise.

Well certainly the pin isnt in all the way ...
i don't know the Carrera as well as i do the SC so i don't want to comment too much on issues on a car i don't own , but those bolts into the door check assembly don't look correct, do they compare to the other side ?? maybe take the whole thing apart and have a closer look at everything.

Thanks. Both sides look identical. The driver's side has the pin movement on the bottom half.

Well the first thing to try is a new pin . . if it is worn you will get that noise as the pin moves laterally.

Try a new pin and seat it correctly.

Actually the door hinge pins don't seat completely, that looks just about correct.

Common issue and likely not torn metal. This issue occurs when the holes the pin fit in become slighlty elongated or worn after years of use causing the pin to snap and release as tension is applied. The answer is a *slightly" larger pin and to drill out the holes to fit precisely. If I rememberc correctly, we use 1/4" pins but just measure yours and go ever so slightly larger.
