Why not oil change anywhere…?

If so many here do their own oil changes, why can I not trust someone at, say, Firestone or some other place to do it? The dealer in town charges $380, the local non dealer Porsche and European car specialist does it for $300, others would do it for hundreds less.

Standard complaints regarding Firestone or other quick lube places:
- forgot to add oil to engine. Yes, it happens.
- not enough oil added
- too much oil added
- wrong oil used
- stripped drain plug because impact wrench was used
- leaks/drips
Lube Tech is the bottom rung of the automotive service career path. Not uncommon for 16 year olds generally are doing the work.
If none of the above concerns you, proceed. Other options are dealer, indy shop or DIY.

Well, I did get the oil and filter changed thru an European car repair service that works on Porsche, Mercedes etc. They recommended I should get a brake flush every two years. Is that true, regardless of mileage sand use?

Next question is, “Why doesn’t my 1980 Ford require brake fluid changes every two years?” Answer: it wasn’t designed by German engineers.

Engine access, etc. require some more proprietary knowledge and technical skill than a generic "pop the hood and there it is" car. As others have said, the techs at the fast lube places are usually not fully trained mechanics. A good Porsche independent is the best balance of experience and economics.
