Default Best Cup Exhaust Setup?

Hey everyone,

What is your favorite exhaust setup for the 997/991 Cup?
  1. Stock Cup Muffler
  2. SuperCup Exhaust
  3. 991 GT3 Muffler
  4. Dundon
  5. Anything I'm missing
Let me know your thoughts!

I've heard the Supercup and it sounds amazing when it's flying by. But have had people tell me it is insanely loud in the car even with ear plugs.

I have a 991 GT3 Muffler I was going to throw on my car, but now not sure.

Do I stop being a vagine and go supercup? Would love to hear everyones opinions.

The supercup exhaust is painful to other drivers on the track too. I personally would not use that one just out of courtesy and for my own hearing.

Center muffler and side bypass I believe produces the most power, nicest sound in my opinion also. The supercup gets to be a lot with something like a 2-3hrs seat time day.

Supercup if for no other reason than it saves precious lbs from rear of car. And sounds best.

I have the same dilemma. I have a 2011 997.2 with Cats and a Center muffler. Cats are fine, but Center muffler is starting to show some cracks. I’ve simply seam welded them back as I see them but don’t want to continue to chase the problem into next season. And the car needs to be a little louder in my opinion.. Considering SuperCup pipes. $2700 from Motorsports...

I'll go with a commercially available, new solution.

Old parts from supercup mean old cats--they fail.

I had all sorts of variations back in the day. Your ears matter--you don't want to wear earplugs just to test. Unless you have that, or filtered radio earpieces, most mufferless setups aren't sustainable.

Dundon's done a ton re: 997 exhaust development and I' sure they can do something for you that maximizes power. Much more appealing vs. paying premium-dollar for used parts of unknown provenance.

BTW PMNA quoting $2,700 for two pipes and a bracket is about right. This was Carrera Cup pricing back in the day and I don't know how many times I've paid this (they're gone the moment you get a love tap from behind), for what's effectively simple plumbing and folded metal (figures are EURs):

Thanks for the responses everyone!

@CRex will these mate to the factory 997 headers on my car?

I don't think so--measurements are different on the 991

The Demon Speed Supercup exhaust is coming. About 4 weeks away.

We will do dyno testing on ours, the factory supercup and the factory muffler back to back to get some data on all of them.

Thanks
Ed
