Default Brake conversion from PCCB to steel rotors

Hi all I have a 997 GTS with PCCB and want to go to factory steel rotors and pads to suit any ideas ?
are the calipers the same ?

can I fit early 350 mm steel rotors off say an early 997 turbo as a direct replacement ? same diameter and same width,

any one got any clues

Suncoast sells 2 versions of a kit for doing exactly that, at least for the 997.1 so probably for the 997.2 as well. They include steel rotors, appropriate pads, and some hardware. Best part is they are sized to work with your larger front PCCB calipers so you don't have to replace those and end up with better steel brakes than you'd have if your car came with the factory steel brake option. One option uses single piece rotors front and rear and the other option uses a 2-piece Girodisc slotted rotor. If they don't have them for your model at Suncoast, talk to Girodisc to see if they have put together a kit for your fitment.

Why are you wanting to switch - tracking the car and don't want to mess up the expensive rotors? If not, for street driving, the PCCBs exceed the performance of steel rotor setups in every regard, except maybe initial bite when cold or wet - repeated heavy stops, braking effectiveness when hot, fade when hot, and especially DUST.

James - since this is your 1st post, I need to tell you that those PCCBs are practically worthless.

I'd be willing to send you a prepaid FedEx label so that you may easily dispose of them once removed.

No need to thank me, it's just a public service I'd be willing to provide for any of my fellow men. In Porsche we trust.

Shhhhhhh.... Pete - the guy is about to make a huge mistake.

I learned a long time ago, you can lead a man to steel rotors but you can't make him stop.

Give a man PCCBs for one day and he'll learn what braking is; teach a man to switch to steel rotors and he can clean brake dust for a lifetime.

Perhaps other forum members know additional old sayings of wisdom that have been passed down through the eight generations?

That kit on Suncoast looks solid. Is it just me or are the elusive PCCB an appreciating part? My orginal owner checked the box and paid $8,000 on a launch car in 2005. Now when I check the price of a full PCCB set on Suncoast for a 997 it's around $22,500. When did that price happen?

It happens with everything, including America's infrastructure. Costs more to replace than when new.

Think about it, when you lay down water and sewage pipes initially, there's only that set of costs. When you need to wholesale repair and replace them, you have to tear up the streets and sidewalks also and then repair and replace those too.

I read an article a few years ago (can't find it any longer) but this problem and our aging infrastructure, low taxes and no rainy day fund make the national debt look like a pebble in our shoe. It's huge.

When you spec it with a new car, its an up charge so they delete out the cost of the steel rotors and calipers and charge you the difference for the PCCB setup. When you look at buying the kit outright from Suncoast, you don't have anything of value to delete from the cost of the kit, so it's much more expensive than if it was spec'd on a new vehicle order.

It has gone up though - used to be about $18k,now $22.5k.

A good used pair of PCCB rotors is about $5,000 now.

I got really lucky when building my 957 TTS Cayenne as PCCBs were one of my must-haves but not findable on any of the decent low-mileage examples I was looking at. I paid $10k for the complete PCCB setup off a low mileage 958 from a guy in Germany - that was all 4 rotors, pads, calipers, etc. Had to adapt them to fit, but have 410mm front rotors to stop that 5,000 lb beast and the wheels stay clean - used to get filthy in one drive.

James - use the quote feature or no one knows what post you're referring to.

But you're missing the big point, on a street driven car that isn't tracked on a regular basis, PCCBs may last the lifetime of the car.

All of this expense and hassle won't net you any more money when you go to sell you 150,000 mile car.

Then there is the old story about the woman that was saving her special dress for a special occasion. He first date, wedding, 10th anniversary, child graduating from college, children getting married, becoming a grandmother, 38th anniversary etc None of these were important enough occasions for her to wear her special dress.

Then she died. And her husband and children buried her in that special dress.

Who are you saving those PCCBs for ?

Who you saving other things in your life for ?

One of our regulars posted just the other day that he has terminal brain cancer and won't be here much longer.

Live James!!! Live damn it! Enjoy those brakes while you can.
