..........and Chevy can keep the same big pushrod V8 in the new Corvette? Don't the same CAFE standards apply to all manufacturers?

Exactly, China taxes based on displacement, like Japan. Though, it definitely helps Porsche with the CAFE numbers here in the US. The 2016 Carrera with 3.4L NA 350hp/287tq engine is only rated 21/28 mpg. The 991.2 Carrera with 3.0L turbo engine, 370hp/331tq is rated at 22/30mpg. Of course, a quick tune bumps those power and torque numbers up by 70+ each. Way more power, way more torque, and better mpg.

“CAFE” stands for corporate average fuel economy. GM makes relatively few Corvettes compared to the legions of econoboxes produced. Most everything Porsche produces is a gas guzzler, so do the math.

These China tax rates based on engine displacement are from 2015. So there's about an 11.5% jump going over 3.0L.

Soooo.... doesn't GM want to sell Corvettes to the Chinese?? And its not too limited as far as production. I think I read that Chevy is gearing up to crank out about 34K vettes/yr

Cylinder deactivation.. It goes from 4cyl-8cyl depending on mode and throttle input.
China. Porsche/VW has sold out to China a long time ago.
LOL at this forum and probably many others.. The C8 rocked the automotive industry, and enthusiasts. The C6 all over again. So many people shook.

My guess is no, at least not as a regular model, even in limited numbers. Success in China for GM is in big numbers. Success for Porsche is a boutique status brand.

After 3+ years of driving my 991.2 C2s I love the 3 liter twin turbo flat six engine. Yeah I guess they did the 3L to sell more cars in China, but I think the engine is a good fit for the car.

As much as I enjoy my GTS, I salute GM's bold move to switch to a mid engine configuration with a naturally aspirated V8 setup...to hell with the Chinese market.

And for better fuel economy and emissions. More torque, more power, better mpg. The only knock against the engine has been sound.

Best comment of the day, to hell with China regulations.
