I like the looks but I'm a little underwhelmed with the announcement. As someone with a 981 GT4 for sale, I'm relieved though. Even if it was detuned, I thought a 8,500/9,000 4.0 was coming. 300lbs heavier and an 8,000rpm redline has me feeling better.

And you come to the conclusion that the new cars will have the "same performance" as the old how exactly? ...

And you are mistaken on the performance too. Just saying.
"With all these changes, the new 718 Cayman GT4 is 10 seconds quicker around the Nürburgring Nordschleife than its predecessor. That means it should run a 7:30 around the 13-mile circuit, which is about five seconds off a new 911 Carrera S. Not bad for a car you have to shift yourself."

Ug. They added 30hp, but almost 400lbs of weight? WTH? What could possibly weigh that much over the 981? That must be a typo.
Other than that, I'm excited to see the extra power up top, aero and keeping the manual. Looks like a nice incremental upgrade...assuming it did not put on those pounds.

Cars must now be homologated without any weight-saving options ticked, so “this car nominally is about 60 or 80 kilos heavier on paper, but it’s only about 30 kilos heavier in real world if you compare apples to apples,” said Preuninger.

I hope so, my 981 is about 3000 corner balanced with track wheels and tires. I wonder if you'll be able to disable the start/top and run a lithium ion - talk about bang for your buck weight reduction.

I was hoping for more myself. I almost waited to buy my 718 in favor of the Spyder. I still love the styling (minus the exhaust which I think is ugly) but performance-wise I don't think I'm missing too much.

Because there is a thread on the 987/981 forum before this section even started.
