Default The control arms are different weight

Hi everyone.

Left and right front control arms are different weight.

Part Number:993.341.41.5.00(Left)
3.86lb(1750g)Without Bushes

Part Number:993.341.41.6.00(Right)

3.26lb(1480g)Without bushes

Why is weight different?

Are these within the limits of error?

Thank You.

No such part as those numbers, I imagine you're talking front wishbones?

I have numerous front control arms, and can weigh them in a few days.

In the last ten years or so, I’ve rebuilt dozens of sets of control arms - left & right are mirror images of each other. But you may have a pair of arms made by two different manufacturers - and thus the arms have casting differences.

Both look OEM.

Castings clearly not mirror images of each other. If you flip one over, do they match as in they are designed to be symmetrical that can be mounted on the left or right side simply by flipping the part over?

+1 There are obvious differences if you look closely. I really wouldn't worry about it.

You can press the stud out of the right side arm, flip it, press it back in, and install the arm on the left side of the car.

Conversely, you can press the stud out of the left side arm, flip it, press it back in, and install the arm on the right side of the car.

That’s what I meant by mirror images. Sorry for the confusion.

In the big scheme of things, 8oz hardly warrants much concern
i think Andreas got it right with different manufacturing
why are you worried about this?

Clearly these are not the same

The one on the left is reinforced, in several places, my guess is that the reinforced one is from an RS
the regular left side prt # is 993.341.017.00 right side is .018.
993RS left is 993.341.017.80 and right is .018.

On the other hand I just looked at mine, I have 2 sets and they are the same as yours so maybe they are all like that

Thank you for your reply.
I understand that Left is reinforced.
I bought these at the Yahoo! Auction in Japan.
The seller said that he had removed it from one car.
Was the old owner accidentally replaced it because it is an old car, or parts of RS have been mixed?
I will ask the seller.
Thank you for confirmation.

993.341.017.00 goes to 993.341.017.02 as 993.341.018.00 goes to 993.341.017.02 so clearly 2 different batches of manufacture

Are the RS ones not longer (or shorter) I cant remember which!

neither longer nor shorter, the different part #s is most likely because the rear bushes are different, same w/ RSR versions same aluminum casting just different bushes
