My 997 was parked unused for a month as I was out of station. When I tried to crank it up, it wouldn't start. I hear click click ...and all lamps in dashboard flashes. after this oil measure starts and count downs from 60 mins. Need help!!!

That is just a dying or dead battery. Battery maintainer if being left for a couple weeks.

Jump start it, then drive it foe a while, or hook it up to a battery tender. Not all discharged batteries are dead.

True, but, a healthy battery should be able to start a car after 30 days of inactivity.

In my experience a battery discharged below 10.5 volts never really behaves that well and can't be trusted.

Only a voltage reading before charging and a much better charge/charger might indicate if the battery can be saved and trusted.

I'm not sure that's true for some 997s especially when the alarm system is activated.

The alarm system monitors the following alarm contacts:
– Alarm contacts in doors, luggage compartment lid, engine compartment lid and headlights.
– Interior surveillance: Movement in the interior when the vehicle is locked, e.g. attempted theft after breaking a window.
– Inclination sensor country-specific equipment: inclination of the vehicle (e.g. when attempting to tow).

If one of these alarm contacts is interrupted, the alarm horn sounds for approx. 30 seconds and the emergency flasher flashes.

After 5 seconds of interruption, the alarm is triggered again. This cycle is repeated up to ten times.

Switching on

• The alarm system is activated when the vehicle is locked.

Switching off

• The alarm system is deactivated when the vehicle is unlocked.

• If you unlock the vehicle with the emergency key in the door lock, you must switch the ignition on (ignition lock position 1) within 10 seconds of opening the door in order to prevent the alarm system from being triggered.

You should lock your Porsche if it's going to be left for any period of time. After awhile, it will go into sleep mode and require the key be used to open the door. If you don't lock the car, all of the "nannies" stay on and will drain the battery in a much shorter time than you might think.

In my many years of owning collector cars that sit for weeks or months, I have owned dozens of batteries that led long lives after being fully discharged a few times. I have never had a battery crap out after being fully discharged only one time.

Everyone is very eager to spend the OP’s money. His battery may very well be on its last legs. But, batteries are expensive. Replacing one after a single discharge without attempting to charge it and continue using it is both wasteful and stupid.

My advice when it comes to new batteries is to find one that was manufactured within the last 6 months ( preferably within the last three months). They have stamps or stickers indicting the month. Before installing the battery, hook it up to a battery charger ( not a maintainer) and bring it to a full charge. After installation use a good battery maintainer if not using the car for some time ( a week or more).

I leave all my cars on Battery Tenders when not being used. The last Optima battery in my 914 lasted 12 years. The Optima in my 997 is 7 years old now and the one in my wife's 997 is 6 years old. Keeping them topped up makes them last much longer than not.
