It's kind of unfair to to include 997.1 models. The manual is clearly going to be the choice over the tip. I'm actually surprised at the number of PDKs versus manual for the 997.2, considering the heavy manual bias in this forum..

I had to include the 997.1 models cause I have one. Lol! But seriously, good thing is that you can still see the breakout between the .2 manual vs PDK. I actually thought this place was more PDK biased for some reason.

Transmission choice comes as a priority in buyer's want list or as a compromise.
For the exact right car it wouldn't matter to me.
Might as well post 997 production stats because with a large enough sample that's where this will end.

True, but I was really only curious in what folks here on Rennlist chose. For me, my right car could only be in manual, but that’s cause of what I want out of this car.

Basically my thinking too. But also....tings evolve and do so for a reason. As has been pointed out too many times to be counted, neither Ferrari or Lamborghini offer any of their cars with manual transmissions anymore. Virtually no customers want them and that was the end of that era for those brands. How many Rennlisters still have and use typewriters and cassette players?

I just prefer the manual because it maximizes the enjoyment of my car. Yes, Ferrari, Lamborghini don’t make manual cars anymore, and Porsche makes less and less, but that’s also why getting a manual in any of these brands is special now. Look at how people gush about how special it is for them to review a “manual” Ferrari or Lambo on YouTube or how great it is Porsche offers their special edition cars in Manual, or how folks are just waiting to get a 992 cause they want it in manual. I would much rather have a manual vs paddle flipper F430, for example. There are folks out there that still appreciate the manual just for reasons other than it’s the fastest or latest in tech. Yes, the manual is not technically better than the PDK, but that’s ok for me. Rowing the gears and having that third pedal just feels more satisfying to me than flicking thru the gears with my fingers, and I don’t track my car, so the speed at which the car shifts don’t matter to me. If you like an analogy, I prefer the older style, and rather inaccurate mechanical watches to the newer and better time keeping quartz batttery powered watches too.
One thing I will concede the PDK is waaaay better at besides the faster shifting is how it beats the crap out of the manual in traffic. If I had to use my 997 as a daily commuter, it would def be in an automatic (as there was no PDK for my model year). Luckily, this car is my weekend fun car, and so it’s always a special occasion for me to have that little extra fun to labor through the gears manually. Will Porsche stop producing them in the future just like Ferrari and Lamborghini? Yeah, most likely...especially as we move towards electric cars which don’t have gearboxes. That’s why I’m having fun still while I can!

Both my 997s are .1 manual coupes but I can only vote once so there's another unshown MT vote in the poll results.
