Default Can y'all tell where this oil leak is coming from. Drivers side

Hello
I have a leak on the driver's side. Only notice it after running, never at rest. Oil pressure is great. Im attaching some photos. Thanks for the insights!

If this is an MK1, could be spark plug tubes. Otherwise "valve cover" gasket -really cam cover, and the "gasket" is a chemical. Not a fun job if it's the latter for a home mechanic.

De-grease it and keep checking until you find it.

That would be the least troublesome to correct.

Ultimately it was the valve cover. And weeping at one of the cam seals so I had both valve covers, all plug tubes, and cam seals replaced. Hopefully she holds oil for a while now! I had hoped to do this work myself but it all stacked up so had it done professionally.

94k miles. Sad these things don't do better over time. How hard is it to seal an engine? My g35 has had essentially 0 major repairs in 190k miles. So it is.

Thank you for all the input!

Glad you got it fixed. You should be fine for quite some time.

Out of curiosity, what makes this job so difficult?

I don't remember if you have an MK-I or MK-II. If it's an MK-I, the tubes usually weep oil rather that leak in larger amounts.

I’ve had good luck with one of those UV dye kits, which you can get from Amazon. Add some to your oil, degrease thoroughly, run the engine a bit and then use a UV flashlight to identify the source.

This photo is from my other car, an old Alfa Romeo. The bright blue is oil, which the photo reveals is coming from a leaking head gasket, since repaired.

Too funny. Click edit and you should be able to remove it.
