Interior smell of a new Porsche
I think most of us would agree that nothing smells better than the interior of a new car. I would take that one step further and say that nothing smells better than the interior of a new Porsche. I am not sure what Hanz and Franz are using over there in Germany but the aroma is wonderful! Honestly, it hits me as soon as I open the door and makes the driving experience even more pleasurable.
So, where am I going with this. My wife purchased some new memory foam pillows for our bed this past weekend. Upon laying down I noticed that the pillows had a certain smell, and my brain receptors immediately thought Porsche 911 interior. So, I am wondering if Porsche uses memory foam in the seats of their new cars? I had always thought that the "Porsche" smell came from the leather and such, but perhaps my nose knows better?
I would be willing to bet that Porsche actually has a team of people who's job is to focus on the new car "Porsche" aroma.

Many years ago when I was a young pre-teenager, a family member got a new 944. I was a car nut even then and was super impressed with this new Guards Red 944. I remember how unique the new car smell was - unlike any other car I had been in, and as an impressionable youngster the scent imprinted in my memory. Fast forward to just a few years ago, I was at a HPDE track day talking to a guy that had a very beat up track rat 944. I sat in his car, which had a largely gutted interior, and caught just enough of that Porsche 944 scent that I immediately had this strong deja vu flashback. That scent was still present in this old track rat car - it must be the plastic or leather. Interestingly, I don't have any of that old scent in the new Carrera T, but there is a unique new car smell that seems to be different than other car.

Lol, this is too funny. I do agree though. The Porsche smell is nice and unique. My Audi does smell almost identical to my 911, maybe because they are owned by the same company. It’s funny how each manufacturer has their smell. I bet you I could sit in a few different cars, blind folded, and name the brand.

The smell is unique indeed! I've also noticed that the 997 and 991 smell different. Anyone else agree? I'm sure it's due to different materials/glue being used in both. Also noticing that my 987 Cayman S smells like the 997 cars I've been in. Has anybody had the chance to sniff a 992 yet?

Everything offgases. Memory foam pillows and the foam used in car seats are all varieties of polyurethane foam.
I was in a factory in China just a few months ago that produces mattresses and also foams for automotive applications. The manufacturing process for both is actually quite different even though they're all types of poly foam.

Try sniffing BMW Napa leather...your P car will smell like poo afterwards.

My '15 Cayman GTS had a unique but pleasant aroma. I just assumed it was the alcantara scattered around the cockpit. The aroma was still evident when I sold the car three years later. I subsequently purchased a 991.2 GTS. To my surprise the same aroma was in that cabin as well. I'm really not sure what it is but it's enjoyable and it's a pleasant greeting every time I enter the car.

ive been told that the smell of a particular car is largely due to the glue used inside. thats why no matter how many years pass and how many different materials are used, the cars still smell the same as their predecessor.

i have to give kudos to our 5 year old Cayenne Diesel. The interior smells as fresh with a nice leather aroma as the day we bought it. The 911 aroma is more subdued. Both cars have the standard leather interior.
I've owned three BMWs over the years and all you could smell was the stink coming from the air conditioning system.

I think much of it is the conditioners they use in the leather tanning process. Here is a detailed article on car smells. https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...new-car-smell/
