New bumper time...opportunity to mod?
So yesterday my electrician's truck slid in our icy driveway into my '02 TT. It is my semi daily, 72k miles, bought off of BAT last fall no major mods other than tune/short shift/GT clutch/etc. His insurance is footing the bill, and new OEM bumper replacement + paint/labor etc is estimated at $4k++ thru the local Porsche/BMW body shop......or I could go a different route, as was considering replacing the front bumper with GT2 or Techart as have to peel off the old film and possibly respray due to some rock chips and color matching everything at one time seems logical, but haven't seen any rear bumper covers other than OEM that I like, and get them all done thru my local shop using Pelican parts or used (or there is a RUF for nearly same $$. If I wanted to add backup sensors at this point & go OEM is that a reasonable possibility? Any suggestions/thoughts?

Your bumper is an easy fix. 6 hours max plus $150 for paint and materials. So for under $1k then pocket the rest or look for a good used one on eBay.

The mod I'd consider in your shoes would be to fully delete the bumperettes and have the bumper filled in where the holes would be.

I can do better than mffarrell. Hit that dent gentle with heat gun. If you are lucky the dent will pop right out. Then remove the bumper and work out any creases with a heat gun from the inside. If done right it will look as good as new. Pocket the entire insurance payout.

agree. it won't BUFF out lol.. but it could well be manipulated with bumper off. requiring only sanding/paint?
also.. you dont wanna try to retrofit backup sensors. too cost intensive to be "worth it", i'd say. as far as accidents go? that one looks fairly "lucky".

No to backup sensors.
No to any sort of aftermarket bumpers.
Yes to trying to fix your current bumper.
Yes to bumperette deletes, but not necessarily by filling in the holes in the factory bumper which are pretty big...

Paul, your car looks so bad-***. How is the clutch working-out? Did you end up replacing the RMS when you replaced the clutch?

Clutch so far is great, though only a few drives so far. Yes, it's been a mild winter, but it's still January in Colorado! RMS was fine, pressure plate was fine. Full clutch replacement and GT2 slave conversion though.

It could very well buff out if done correctly, no sanding or painting. Just heating and massaging. I have seen it done on worse dents than this. Plastic is very plastic.

the plastic popping out, yes...but that thing will need painting, the paints completely creased

what did you use to cover the holes? that looks really good!

I defer. yet, the last time i tried that with our plastic bumpers was on my 993. it never looked fully "right" again. but that was a paint match issue and the "dent" was gone.
