The 992's fake exhaust tips should be rightfully up there in terms of hatred with everything else that is fake is this world.
I suppose that when compared to the latest offerings by Porsche's sister company we should be thankful that they at least "function" on the 992 as actual outlets for the exhaust.
Now as for fake exhaust outlets? I have no word beyond abomination to describe how absolutely absurd these companies are becoming.

Arghhhh. Can't. Unsee.
(In fairness, also both M-B and VW are doing exactly this)

Yeah, saw an MB ML the other day (can't remember which model) with "dual exhaust" on each side,.....turned out to be one ugly cut exhaust pipe mounted right between the two of them,....not even in or close to the center of one. Looked like cheap $hit.

I'm not sure if there even is fairness anymore.
The sad truth is we are being sold laughably expensive, face value, artificial, disposable junk and there is nothing we can do about it because the average consumer's head is rammed up their a$$ so far that they don't even realize these exhaust outlets are fake!

It is supposed to be saving you money when you get into an accident, but honestly, I would like them to give us an option to take it or have a real exhaust tip. Otherwise it seems like a blatant excuse for VAG to cut costs while raising prices,

^Curious.....why does the average consumer care about these bumpers? They won't go black so average consumer will probably like it.

But the difference is those Audi's are not high performance sports cars... they are luxury appliances. The owners of those Audi's don't care if there are real exhausts or not... infact they probably will like that their stylish rear bumpers are nice and clean. Porsche has a different set of standards to live up to.

Pretty much all manufacturers are doing this now. I noticed at the LA Auto Show last week that almost all new models have this to some extent, the Audi example above being the worst offender. It baffles me on mainstream products since the trend is toward hybrid/electric...
As it relates to the 992, yes there is speculation that it is to reduce insurance costs in Germany by minimizing rear end damage repair costs. You can blame the US-spec bumperettes for a similar reason. Also keep in mind that the rear bumper comes off for servicing, so not having the tips connected makes that easier. And ultimately it allows the exhaust to by mounted higher out of critical rear airflow, while keeping heat away from plastic bodywork.

Whatever the reasoning ( or excuses) behind it, there is absolutely no excuse for having fake exhaust outlets or finishers on the rear bumper of any car. One of the most beautiful modern day classic BMW's simply hid the muffler outlet under the rear bumper and the rear of the car simply looks all the better and cleaner for it.
Better yet, why not just eliminate all the silly exhaust trickery and gimmicks and simply hide it or dump it out under the back the car? The early 911's made no attempt to stylize the muffler outlet. Seeing that the 992 is supposedly meant to evoke 911's from the 70's ( cough cough bull$hit cough) perhaps they should have followed that design element as well.

The scariest part is that it certainly wasn’t going to stop there nor will it stop with these absurd exhaust tips.
Ha , well they certainly can’t say they were “ cutting rear end collison insurance costs “ so I’m betting the excuse for that has something to do with redirecting the exhaust gas flow for optimal thrust velocity or some other marketing BS that car ( and the Veyron) are almost entirely based on.
