I’d like to hear from you guys on what the recommendation would be for a GTS 4 winter wheel set. 2019 if that matters. I live in the Denver area and this will be my daily driver unless there is truly a large snowfall then I’d drive my wife’s SUV.
What is is the most cost effective way to get a winter wheel setup if I want Porsche wheels for this set?
My dealer mounted Michelin PA4’s on the original rims. They seem pretty solid. I’m in Montréal and we’ve had a bit of snow, but not much. I did take it out in snowier areas to test them out and they performed quite well.
Its also my daily drive me hbless theres a heavy storm.
I think any of the Michelin, Pirelli or Bridgestone winter performance rubber would be fine, in terms of cold temps, or light snow. But the GT4 is so low that I would be very leery of taking it out when more than 4" of snow is expected because of wind-blown snow drifts on the roads causing the car to be plowing snow at the front which could be problematic.
Narrower wheels will do better in the snow than wider wheels (think ice skates vs. sneakers). If I lived in Denver, and planned to drive in the snow a lot, I'd probably order some narrower winter wheels, and adjust the offsets to keep them flush, to improve my snow handling. Or I'd drive my AWD SUV in the snow and leave the GT4 in a heated garage.
In NJ, I don't plan to take my 991.2 GTS (RWD) out in the snow. Not because I fear driving it in light snow - I would be appropriately cautious. But because I fear how other people drive in the snow, who aren't so appropriately cautious. And there are just too many people, therefore too many bad drivers, on the roads around here.
I’m in Alberta, Canada with no troubles on my Alpines and Turbo S Centerlocks.
Agree with the issue on ground clearance but the roads here are always plowed so no issues (none going over the snow line in between lanes either).
Granted I’m not heading onto country roads or the like.
Even with SPASM I don’t think the car sits that low. It’s barely lower than my IS350 with the FSport lowering rims.
I just purchased a 2018 991.2 Carrera 4 GTS with the Turbo S centerlock wheels. I'd like to get a second set of CL wheels and tires for winter. Are there any issues/pitfalls going with aftermarket CL wheels instead of OEM wheels? I noticed tire rack has OZ Ultraleggera HLTs listed for the 911 Turbo S (oddly their vehicle selector only shows 5 lug options for Carrera 4 GTS).
I chose glossy titanium but the black is epic as well. My tires are the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4s. Both are covered under the Premium Rim and Tire package insurance I also purchased.
I'm in Denver too, and I picked up a set of 991.1 Turbo S wheels on the forums here and put the Michelin Alpins on them for my 991.2 GTS. They're great and wear well.
I had this issue last year. The problem with the GTS 4 is the rear wheels are wider than the Turbo S, so it was hard to get a winter set up with tires only. I went with a rim/ tire combo from the TireRack (OZ wheels with Michelins). It was cheaper than the Turbo S OEM option, and wheels look great (even get compliments from Porsche staff). if you don't have your heart set on Porsche OEMs, It was about $3000 cheaper.

Thanks for the insights. I ended up going with the OEM Turbo S CL wheels and apparently grabbed the last set in the US in black finish. I was very tempted to go with the OZ aftermarket option at tire rack, but I don't know anything about wheel offsets and was worried about screwing that up. As noted by another poster, the OEM Turbo S wheels offered in the Porsche winter package are slightly narrower than the OEM CLs that come on the 991.2 GTS. (11" rear rims with 295s instead of 12" with 305s for the stock summer ones)..
