Default Help With a Few Radio Upgrade Questions

Hi All,

I need to upgrade my c4's head unit as the factory PCM unit has died. I have spoken with a few local audio techs and they have all really pushed fancy touch screen radios which in total will be over $1000. (funds I would rather spend on mechanical maintenance)

However, I really want a single DIN simple radio which I know wont become outdated ect with time. Its just a personal preference.

Does anyone out there know if a single DIN radio upgrade is possible if I have the below pictured radio? Thanks for your help! The audio techs are really trying to talk me out of it for some reason.

I recommend you talk with the folks at Car Audio Innovations (https://cai-store.com/). They know their way around the 996's systems. I sourced my replacement head unit and install kit from them. Their custom wiring harness to connect aftermarket head units to the Porsche connector is worth the price of admission all by itself, and their customer service is top-notch.

Best of luck!

You could do a single DIN radio, but you would need a new cage behind the radio and then you move the HVAC controller up adjacent to it. You could just get a cubby for the HVAC controller and CD or Nav player, I have two cubbies in my car. Bought the pieces on ebay.

I did mine by myself in a few hours and paid a total of just over $400 from Crutchfield for EVERYTHING I needed to do the job to include the tools to remove some plastic on the dash. The only thing they didn't sell was the conversion piece to make the cigarette lighter into a USB/HDMI port I got that on Amazon for like 12 bucks.

The arrow in one of the pics is pointing to a button that I turned into a garage door opener, second best thing I have done to the car minus the radio.

Nice clean job! I spoke to Crutchfield as well and they told me i needed to run separate wires for the front and rear speakers. First i heard of that. They said their harness doesn't include them. Did you get a harness that had everything for easy plug and play?

Here is the list of what I ordered, I have the factory HIFI system, not all cars have that so I am not sure If that makes a difference. It was such an easy project the only thing I didn't use is the RCA cables they sent me I didn't need them. If this is an item you need let me know I will ship these to you assuming you don't live in Guam lol.Pioneer MVH-2300NEX

Oh yeah, vey true. Its about 75% no radio but sometimes you want to just blast some music. Also the navigation and Bluetooth come in handy with all the hands free laws.

To be fair I do enjoy the ability to play music off my phone. I usually have something on when im on a spirited car club drive but its usually drowned out by exhaust and concentration haha!

Thanks for everyone's comments and ideas.

@ Horsepwr that is an awesome price for what you did there. Looks great.

Did someone at Crutchfield walk you through the parts your required and how to do the install, or did you have previous experience working on radios ect.

Thanks!
