Default 991.2 GT3 versus 991.1 GT3RS

I got an opportunity drive the 991.2 GT3 the very first time this weekend and I was not impressed
I really wanted to like it....but I dont know why I felt this way .... it must be true....one you go RS nothing else meets your expectations
Why such a huge difference?
I will never ever consider swapping it with my 991.1 RS

Interesting perspective. The 4.0 L engine in the 991.2 GT3 is a refinement of the 4.0 L engine in 991.1 GT3 RS. Same HP but the 991.2 GT3 actually has a higher red line. But obviously there is more to a car and a driving experience than the engine (and the engines are pretty close). I saw a gorgeous signal yellow 991.1 GT3 RS at Porsche South Bay several months ago. Asking price was $220k. It had less than 100 miles on it. I don't think it sold for asking price but the SA told me it was pretty close. They are both great cars. I went with a GT3T because I wanted something a little more subdued than the RS, I wanted a manual and I never go to the track. That being said, what a beast the GT3 RS is and the PDK-S is sublime.

This has to be the dumbest, most useless comparison thread/post in RL history.

I would agree. So OP what was different? Specifically? Sound, suspension, handling, looks. The comparison is pretty useless with zero context. I am not saying I agree or disagree as I have only driving a .1 GT3 and a .1 RS.

I've owned all 3 Models, 991.1 GT3, 991.2 GT3, and 991.1 GT3RS. They were ALL equally GREAT Cars-
And I'm sure the 991.2 GT3RS, which I just spent a week-end running with at Sebring, is also a GREAT car.
My advice to the OP would be to go back on his Meds and try again.

What a waste of a thread...... The .2 GT3 was already compared numerous times with the .1 RS.

I am sorry I should have searched the forum before posting and wasting a thread or should have thought about the flaming comments but oh well, not everyone will understand how you feel
I was thinking if a .2 GT3 is a car that could potentially replace my .1RS before I can afford a .2 RS but I was pleasantly disappointed
the sound and feel of the car is way muted than the .1RS - the handling is better than my turbo but somehow I felt it was not as good as the .1RS
The looks, obviously the wide body of the RS beats the GT3 by miles but beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder
Honestly the fact that it red lines at 9000 RPM is not something that matters to me because I am never going to push my car that hard anyway (yes, I know!!)
I was in love with the RS from my very first sight and drive, the GT3 not so much but that does not mean it isnt a great car, may be too refined for me, one of the reasons I dislike my turbo

991.1 3RS feels quite special when "PDK Sport" button is pressed, but at ~ 5000 rpm I feel the torque is a bit lacking. Maybe the new engine in .2 GT3 is better there?

I loved my 16RS but if I were brutally honest my 15GT3 was an easier car to track and was just as fast

Its a bit less lacking. Sounds like you should stay with a Turbo. Gobs of torque everywhere.

9000 rpm NA Motorsport lump is not for everyone but is epic for its purpose.

Sorry about all the venom here. I too agree, I have had 991.1 GT3 and RS, 991.2 GT3 and RS. I would say in order my favorite is 991.2 RS >991.1 RS >991.1 GT3 > 991.2 GT3.

There was a lot of raw component sound and feel engineered out of the 991.2 GT3 vs the 991.1. I loved how when I fired up the 991.1 GT3 and took people for drives, they always asked if something was wrong with the car because it made some many wonderful raw mechanical sounds. Those were lost in the 991.2 GT3 and for people like me (and apparently you!), it was sadly missed. However, the engine felt much better in the new .2, but there is no doubt it was a more civilized car to drive everyday vs an RS or a .1 GT3. I really miss my Arena Red GT3 and wish I had it back!

The way an RS looks can be polarizing too, some like the understated look of a GT3 or T, but that's why Porsche makes so many variants, because everyone has different tastes.

My 0.02c

All the more power to everyone who prefer another GT car.
I understand many liking the more understated GT3 look and to my eye it’s prettier.
But I’m not getting these cars for a pretty understated look, I prefer the menacing track animal look of the TS.

The touring and Manual GT3 is great for non track enthusiasts although I probably wouldn’t get a Porsche for that kind of use.
Its like neutering it.

Different horses for different courses and Porsche caters to all.

I drove the manual GT3 a couple thousand miles on great CA roads and still would prefer an RS for that.
I was a bit surprised about that.
In case of the manuals, the mechanical diff really take away from the overall performance, specifically rear grip.
The more comfortable more padded setup really doesn’t add to comfort in the new GT3 and a GTS is probably quicker and more comfortable to drive.

manual. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great car. Just preferred the other flavors of GT cars better. I have a manual car as my daily driver, so it’s not a PDK vs manual issue.
