Default 996 Turbo owners: What tempts you?

I've owned a lot of different sports cars and a bunch of different Porsches, but the 996 Turbo so far has pretty much been my goldilocks car... Just right!

But still, I have a wandering eye... I'm curious to others who love their 6Turbo's, what might tempt you to give it up?

Obvious answers are 997.1 Turbos, (maybe .2 Turbos if you don't mind PDK), but prices are kind of up up up on those as well.

Possibly a GT3 (though I'd miss the power), or a GT2 (though i'd miss a big chunk of retirement savings).

991.1 Turbo's are tempting to me but still $110K+, way more than I want to put into a single car.

McLaren, but yet again, just way too much coin.

With the most desirable 996 Turbos' topping $65K, what might you consider if one bumped the budget to say ~$75K-$80K???

I have an idea I'm percolating on, but curious about other ideas.

I think my next sports car is going to be a Gallardo 6-speed manual. The Lambo will be an add; I'll be keeping the 996 Turbo.

991.2 Carrera S with X51 power kit. A "poor man's" GT2. I will be buying one eventually.

Early years of Audi R8 (2008, 2009). Wholesale prices are now in the upper $50k to low $60k range.

This is pretty close to what I've been pondering... Though a 991.2 base (not an S), manual transmission, upgraded with "not officially supported by Porsche" X51/GTS turbos and a Cobb tune to make it all run right. And I think it can be done at my target price point.

To me the hidden beauty of the 991.2 platform is the engine itself is identical in the base, S, and GTS configurations, only difference (power-wise) is turbos and tuning. And with Cobb recently cracking the ECU piling on power at all the levels, even with the lowliest, smallest base car turbos in the platform are still putting down 435+HP to the wheels. Upgrade to the GTS Turbos and 500+ no problem.

Sure, you can build a Mezger to 1,000 hp, but that's not the point... the idea of a 2017 911 with more power than my stock-but-for-the-tune 996 Turbo at a price point similar to a 997.1 Turbo is intriguing.

Definitely wondering if my next Turbo might actually have a lowercase "t" ;-) I think the biggest downside is the depreciation of the 991.2 vs a 996 or 997 turbo...

Of course R8's are pretty cool too!

I have a R8 V10+. Completely different car than my turbo, but very fun to drive, with a significant amount of NA power. The exhaust is intoxicating compared to any Porsche I have driven.
If I were to make an additional purchase, it would be a 991 GT3, LP-610.

I've thought a lot about this as well. While I like the IDEA of the Gallardo, i just can't get into the looks - especially of the early cars. Nothing about it really calls to me. The spyder is a bit prettier at least... A Ferrari 355 is more interesting to me - although has a lot less power...

Maybe I'm the weird one here, but I still lust after a Series 1 or 1.5 Jaguar XKE. I grew up on them and it's still the prettiest car in the world, in my opinion. I love the modern convenience of my turbo, and the reliability (even if the check engine light came on again on the way to the meet this evening), but I truly love the smell and feel of classics. None of these are or will be my daily driver so why does the car have to be practical in any way?

I am not selling, but have an eye out for a 997 GT3 to add to my stable.

GT2 is way different from a 6TT in driving experience; would give up a 6TT for a 6GT2 in a heartbeat, for my preferences .....that said, having both would be fantastic ...
7GT3 is boring on street unless pushing hard/track, 6GT3 is fun on street.

That Adriatic Blue is the Holy Grail! I'm sure that has a original MSRP price tag on it. I've always loved the lambos in 6spd configuration. Being around them often give me that feeling but the upkeep, not so much. That is why every time I toss the idea around in my head I still always decide to stay with my Pcars. The value of them, the driving experience they deliver, part price points, and the ease of DIY repairs on them is second to non.

Although I'll say the R8 is a very fun NA car but they have got to be the ugliest of them all. They look like a stretched audi TT. They have zero supercar appeal. BUUUTTT 50-65K!! pricing sure is tempting. Doesn't surprise me though. Audis don't hold their value. Never have never will.

PCAR for the win!

V8 Vantage, 996 GT3, 996 GT3 Cup are what I have been looking at possibly next once I finish up the 996 GT2 clone build, which so far it is such a wild setup that it is hard to wipe the grin off my face after every drive. When I drive the 997 Turbo my mind wanders the most about other cars, the 996 on the other hand is all about it and it only.

It had an MSRP of almost $204k in 2002. That's $286k in today's dollars. I wonder how much they will ask since it only has 14k miles.
