First time driving a GT4
I have been a bit of a car nut (like most here) for some time... but I've never owned a Porsche. I've owned 3 BMW M3's, an M4, and M2, a C63 AMG coupe, a C7 Corvette (Z51) and a dedicated track car within the last 10 years. The closest I've come to a Porsche branded car is a Golf R... and that's not very close.
Today I'm driving a BMW 340i xDrive as a DD. I had planned to wait until the new mid-engine C8 Corvette is released next year before I buy another "fun/track" car. However, I was getting impatient so started to look for what I might buy to hold me over. Thought about a 2019 C7 Grand Sport but worried about massive depreciation over 2 years once the C8 is released. I happened to notice a local GT4 for sale online and decided I'd take a peak. It's Jet Black Metallic, leather interior with alcantara and contrast red stitching. Carbon interior and 18 way sport seats. Only about 5,200 miles, never tracked and fully wrapped from bumper to bumper. It's immaculate. Oh, and full warranty until 2022!! So I took it for a drive...
I was surprised how raw, mean and purposeful the car felt. I always knew my M cars were compromises... luxury street cars turned into performance cars. My Corvette was a far more visceral, pure sports car experience. The GT4 is even moreso! It's a pretty intense experience. Heavy clutch which might tire in lots of traffic. A firm but comfortable suspension and an incredibly solid chassis. Ridonkulous sound! I cannot believe the wonderful noises this car makes. It's steering is amazing and weighted perfectly. Seats are incredibly good and the build quality is top notch. The only downside is that you really need to rev the car to get power. My 340i feels as fast in the city - street light to street light. That doesn't mean the GT4 isn't very fast, it is. It's just that to go fast, every cop in the surrounding 10 blocks will hear it and start licking their lips.
Having said that, I was incredibly impressed. Started the process to buy the car. My 6 year old put on his "I'm faster than you" shirt to go get a picture taken with the car! I'm excited to soon own my first Porsche and take it out to the track!

Congratulations. I don’t think you’ll have any regrets. Lots of tuning options available should you decide You need a little more power at lower RPMs. The GT4 looks so good in black. Enjoy.

Welcome to the family!
yes, if you can get over that this isn’t a car filled with torque, you should be very happy with the GT4. I came from a modded 996TT with aircraft carrier like torque.....it was great....but I never used the horsepower it created and I don’t really miss that. 700whp or 340whp (or whatever it is), both work for me just need to drive them a bit differently.

I'm on the east coast of Canada. So the car will get driven no more than 7-8 months a year

Congrats and enjoy for many kilometers in the best of health! They are AWESOME on street and track, and there is also a surprising amount of storage for a long weekend of travel (including track weekends and all the associated gear).
I’ve also been surprised pleasantly by the GT4 gas mileage on highway trips can achieve 28 mpg (or more depending on conditions and how you drive).
It’s a great all-around car and I have grown to love mine even more over time!!
Welcome!

Black is beautiful (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise)

Thanks for the welcome. I normally have bright colored sports cars but I really like black on the GT4... especially with the black wheels and red highlights (calipers, seat belt, stitching). It's also a little more understated which I like too.
